Capital One - Platinum Mastercard —
We received the new credit card last week and wanted to request an additional card for myself. We called and gave them the info, etc. We received the 2nd card. It didn't need to be verified via phone?? So we used it yesterday for a grocery purchase and then tried for an internet purchase, which was declined!!!We called them the following morning and they referred us to the Fraud Dept. We wanted to know where the incident took place. They would NOT disclose the info without first having my husband fax his Social Security No, Drivers License, Utility Bill, etc. I advised him NOT to fax vital info ever. We told the Fraud Rep. that they're protocal was backwards. They enforced strict security verification AFTER the fact and not when you apply? That's stupid. We have an American Express and other Bank cards and NEVER had a problem like this before. And when I thought about it, my daughter had the SAME problem last year with her Capital One card. Someone tried using her number at a retail website. How loose is Capital One's security database?
This is not tight security; it shouldn't have happened in the first place. This has never happened to me with prior cards!
In conclusion, we wanted to close the account right away, but the rep. stated that we could not until we send those vital documents!! IF YOU WANT SECURITY, DO NOT APPLY FOR CAPITAL ONE.
