At the age of 18, I decided to get my first credit card. Some people might say that was a bad idea, and I agree to an extent. However, I had a job and was somewhat responsible for my age, so I applied and was approved for a Capital One credit card. Of course, I only had a few hundred dollar limit, but it was my first credit card, and I was happy. I paid my bills on time, stayed within my balance, and was overall a good consumer. That all stopped when I lost my job a few months later. I started to depend on my card more than usual, and maxed out my card. I was having difficulty paying off my bill, so I decided to call their customer service line and let them know what was going on. I tried explaining to the person how I had lost my job, and I would of course pay off my bill, but it was going to take me a little longer to do it. He ( or she, I don't remember anymore...) seemed unconcerned with my problems, and only told me that there was nothing they could do, I just needed to pay it off. I hung up the phone and was left with a bad taste in my mouth. That's when the phone calls started. I was behind on my bill for about 2 months, and I started to receive as many as five calls a day from Capital One collectors. I told them all the same story, but the calls never stopped. I even got calls at nine at night! By the time I paid off my card later that month, I just cancelled it. I will never own a Capital One card again.
