After 6 years of having Capital One Visa-No Hassle Rewards card, I'm closing my account. Because I normally pay my balance in full each month, I don't pay attention to fees and policies on late payments. I paid one payment online ONE HOUR late a few months ago. I knew I'd get hit with interest and I paid it. However, the next month I got hit with interest again on all of my charges even though I paid in full and early. I called and was told that's their policy--2nd month is charged interest no matter what. I asked to speak to someone who might have authority to waive this interest given my 6 years of history with them and excellent credit score (over 800). They put me on hold a while and the same person came back only to say no one could talk to me and they wouldn't waive the $104 in interest. I asked if he understood he was about to lose a 6-year customer who gets them merchant fees on over $35K in annual purchases and he said he was sorry but there would be no waiver.
Another example of poor service is that it took over 7 minutes to get them to note that I'd be traveling abroad when I called to post that info. I had to tell the same info to 2 people and the 2nd one sounded like a droid. In comparison, the same call to Bank of America took less than 2 minutes with one polite customer service rep.
