Resident Evil 4 was an absolutely excellent title for the Nintendo Gamecube thanks to its very intense horror based game play, huge list of weapons, and stunning full 3D graphics. Really the only problem with the game was the cube system itself, everyone's favourite lunch box console didn't even come close to matching the success of the Playstation2 and that's means a lot of gamers have yet to play this superior game when it first came out. Fortunately in the Fall of 2005 Capcom would release a new version of Resident Evil 4 exclusively for the PS2 here and see why you should get off your butt and pick up this huge title.

RE4 takes place 6 years after the disaster in Resident Evil 2. The company responsible for the massive zombie infestation (the Umbrella Corporation) is no longer in business after the huge scandal and Raccoon City survivor Leon Kennedy is now a highly skilled secret agent. Although Leon is one of the few humans that escaped the ravaged city he still isn't exactly taking it easy. Leon is on a new mission to find and rescue the president's daughter from a remote European village. These mutant residents will use weapons, they duck if you point a laser-pointed gun at their head and they are will even call for reinforcements.

If all that wasn't enough the PS2 RE4 has a few bonus features the Cube didn't get. If you manage to complete the entire game then you can unlock an exclusive quest where you play as Ada Wong called Separate Ways. Although the game isn't that long, here you can learn even more about the story and how Ada saves Leon a few times. You can even find some new weapons and customs like the Tommy Gun and Suit of Armour here as well so if you liked the Cube version and you want more you'll find it here.

OK, the visuals don't look as sharp as the Gamecube original thanks to the colour loss and some missing detail here and there but you'll be hard pressed to find any major differences between the two. The sounds also play an important role in RE4. If the town's people discover you, the music changes to a more tension building theme meaning you have to be much more cautious and watch your back. RE4 also has very realistic sound effects for important things like gun shots and different voices.

RE4 has very realistic graphics, fitting music, giant bosses, and most importantly the game controls very well unlike most of the other past games of the series. Some of the odd button mashing cut scenes did take me out of the game sometimes but fortunately they are few and far between plus they do look pretty amazing too. Sure the graphics take bit of a hit but the fact there are even more play modes and secret items more then make up for it. Resident Evil 4 for the PS2 is an amazing actionfest that will keep you busy for a very long time.

Resident Evil 4 overall rating: 98/100
