Capcom - PS2 - Resident Evil 4 —

So I remember seeing RE4 when it came out and it looked super cool. I remeber enjoying resident evil 2 back in the day...and was hearing good things about this one. But I didn't want to buy it just yet. It eventually became a "greatest hits" game ($20.00) but I never got around to it. My girlfriend is awesome and pays attention to my interests so she got me this game (as part of Resident Evil: The Essentials). So far I have only played this one...and it was AWESOME! I am not the bravest guy in the world when it comes to scary movies and the like, so this game's music, dark atmosphere, and creepy enemies had me on the edge of my seat a lot. I literally jumped or gasped in terror like 5 times throughout the game. Not too much, but enough to be effective and make me doubt if I really wanted to turn the next corner. This franchise hasn't lost its touch.

Anyway, I'll break it down here just for the sake of being quick and to the point:

Graphics: Some of the absolute best I've seen for a PS2 game. I have a PS3 now, and I still enjoyed this game for its visuals!

Controls: It took me a little to get used to (less than an hour), but once I did, I loved it. They are tight, responsive, and keep you in the action of the game since you wont think about them after a while.

Sound: Creepy music, good sound effects whenever you are in a fight, and knowing when certain enemies are somewhere nearby... (like when those "Regenerators" are around) ....OMG scary! :) The sound really helps the game.

Gameplay: All around good. Puzzles are good (not too easy or impossible), weapons are cool, action scenes make you excited, you have to think sometimes before just wasting your items or running around with guns blazing, and the boss fights can be really fun (not always easy but fun).

Story: You can't avoid the cliche's that scary movies/games face, but I've always liked the Resident Evil story line...I guess it could be worse, but also could have been better.

Replay Value: I won't spoil what you can unlock, but it includes costumes (good ones actually), weapons, minigames, not-so-minigames, and more weapons!

Simply put, this game is worth playing. Some people don't like it compared to what they remember about previous installments in this series...but everything is better when you are/were a kid. Just enjoy this for what it is! Go get it cheap and have yourself a good time.
