Canon mp460 —

The Canon MP460 came almost free when I bought my iMac about 2 years ago—Apple was offering an $100 printer rebate and this model cost $110. Since then, I've printed almost continually on it and it's been a reliable machine. Recently I've been experiencing some software issues with it and have had to reinstall the drivers, but I think that's not a printer problem---more like a computer problem. I will probably have to reinstal my OS to get the "unexpected printing errors" to go away.

Anyway, the scanner, copier, and have worked great for me. I'm actually surprised that a printer so inexpensive would last this long, for the way that I am continually printing and scanning many documents every day.

I've printed photos on the MP460 too. I think the print quality was better when it was new. Since then the colors have seemed blurrier and just not a high quality as they used to be. I've probably run about two packs of photo paper through my printer in the time I've had it. I've also printed on speciality papers too, even though techincally you're probably not supposed to.

I like the easy of scanning, although there are a few steps to go through when saving a scanned image that I think are unnecessary and that seem to make the process slower. I've looked for a way in preferences to turn these dialoge boxes off, but I haven't found one yet.

Ink for this model costs about $25 for black and $21 for color. I go through about one of each cartridge every 6 weeks. I've just ordered ink refills that I can do myself from ebay, so I think that should help with the matenience cost. Since the printer was so inexpensive to start out with, I feel comfortable experimenting with something like refilling the ink myself.

All in all, I've been very pleased with my printer preformance over the years. It's been a good little machine. I'm not sure if they make them anymore, but if they do, than I'd recommend it to others. It's an all-in-one machine that really works.
