Quality photos for a pocket camera.

I loved this camera. Very great quality pictures. We used it for over three years before the shutter stopped working. This was probably due to our mid-handling. The zoom was excellent for a pocket camera and I liked the different colors you could take the photo in.

Great little camera

This Canon Power-shot camera is a great choice for someone who is looking for a user-friendly, high quality camera for a low cost.  It is 10.0 mega-pixels and has a 4x optical zoom.  It has some fun little features that you can use including a night time feature which has been great for taken pictures of my little ones sleeping at night.  This camera also has a face recognition feature and you can take videos with it. I am in no way a photographer, but I can take great pictures just by pointing and shooting with this camera.  It is lightweight and small so you can stick it in your purse or pocket easily.  I love that I can just stick it in my pocket since I have small children I am always wanting a camera on hand to catch all the fun and cute moments they come up with.  It takes two AA batteries.  It can eat up your batteries life quickly so I suggest using rechargable batteries in it.  This camera is a great value for a low cost!

My new Canon PowerShot A 1000 IS works like a charm!

My new Canon PowerShot A 1000 IS works like a charm! I researched it and found it to be one of my top choices. I chose it after going to the stores to get a feel for each (Fuji, Sony, and Kodak) as to size, weight, grip, ease of operation, separate viewfinder and an excellent LCD screen. The still shots are crisp, as are the video and audio. As my arms and hands shake alot, the Image Stabilizer is very helpful. I bought a Lexar 60x, 2 GB SD card for memory and it gives super fast downloads.

Everything I wanted at a price I could handle.

I recently acquired the Canon Powershot A1000IS after my old camera took a turn for the worst.  I did a lot of research before making this purchase and am satisfied that I made the right choice for my needs.  My old camera was 6.2 megapixel, and this stands at 10, so the pictures are much better.  I really appreciate the in-camera red-eye fix option and also that you can rotate the screen while reviewing pictures to make them a bit larger (depending on the layout).  One of the most interesting and unexpected things I have discovered is that while on the "kids and pets" setting (which is pretty much all I take), a separate box on the screen pops up over the kids/pets faces and zooms in so that you can be prepared to take the best possible shot for expressions.  Awesome camera.  I know they have a newer and "better" model out, but seriously, this is all I need. I am currently experimenting with different types of batteries (NiMH rechargeables) and adding a larger memory card to see if I can improve the speed between takes.  This camera has an option to take continuous pictures, but so far there is a good 2-3 seconds before a subsequent picture is taken (this experience was with a set of old rechargeable batteries I've had laying around).

Just okay- not impressed

I have been a professional portrait photographer for 8 years and Canon is my brand of choice. I have had three different Digital SLRs from them and love them all. So when I had a need for a point and shoot camera, I of course decided to go with another Canon. I know I am spoiled by the image quality and controls of my 5D Mark II, but I am usually disappointed with the images from this camera. I realize it's just for snapshots and not professional work, but I don't think I have ever gotten an image that is completely in focus with this camera. Also apparently at some point a little plastic piece broke off inside the battery cover, so now it no longer stays closed on it's own. Which is very frustrating because I have to hold tightly onto the bottom of the camera to keep the battery door closed while shooting or the camera will shut itself off. It was never dropped or damaged, so I have no idea how it broke. On the plus side, the controls are pretty user friendly.

The Canon Powershot A1000 IS is a great deal!

I have thoroughly enjoyed using my Canon. It is easy to use and loaded with great features. The zoom capabilities work great with my only complaint being that pictures taken in the zoom mode print out a little fuzzy even though the pic on the screen appears clear. So I just take it in regular mode and adjust it on the computer and this alleviates that problem. My 10 yr old grandson was playing with it and created some videos of himself which came out nice and clear, not to mention funny. My point being it's that easy to use even for the novice picture taker. Some of my other favorite features are the face recognition focus, the ease of downloading your choice of pics, or all at once, even in low lighting it doesn't always need the flash and still gives me great shots and of course the large screen to see what your taking a picture of. The screen also works great to show off your pics, allowing you to zoom in and out on them as well. Removing pictures is easy as well, with two clicks any pictures you change your mind about are gone with ease. It does take a few seconds before being able to take the next shot though and that's what prevented me from giving it a five star rating. I've lost a couple of great shots due to this issue. But overall I enjoy this camera and use it often.

Great little camera - Powershot A1000

My wife and I wanted a small digital camera to take along on trips, that would be easy to pack and quickly take out and use.  We already had a high end digital camera, so this one was more for mobility, while still having a good image quality. This camera caught us as a good balance between price and features/quality.  The camera does the job very well, and has a great image quality.  It has enough settings to fit pretty much all our picture taking needs.  The video capability on it also works quite well.  It's not the highest quality video, but the point of the camera is for image, the video is just a bonus. The image stabilization works quite well.  The flash is great.  I haven't noticed an issue with the flash taking too long.  Also I haven't noticed an issue with there being a delay between taking pictures.  If anyone does have that issue, I would suggest looking at the SD card that they have in it.  The class on the card determines the speed of writing to and reading from the card.  So if it's not fast enough between pictures, I'd suggest a higher class SD card.  We have a Class 6 in ours, and it works perfectly. Overall a great camera at a really good price.  Does the job for those who don't need professional quality pictures.

Canon Powershot A1000IS Digital Camera--I love it.

I'm a little bit of  a technophobe.  When I bought my Canon PowerShot A1000IS, I had never used a digital camera before.  I'd never even owned a traditional camera, unless you include that brownie I bought in 1982. Even so, with this camera it wasn't long before I was taking professional-quality photo's--photos that have landed me on the front page of Etsy about a half dozen times, and have prompted strangers to send me e-mails asking who my photographer is.  For a great price, this camera provides image stabilization, white balancing, auto focus...you can just point and shoot or customize your shot according to your subject and light conditions.  You can shoot with or without a flash, resize, take self portraits with an auto-timer.  It's a great camera for a rank beginner like I was, but it's also a camera you can grow with. The only problem I've ever had is that the batteries can be hard to change.  Sometimes the little latch just doesn't want to catch.  That one bit of construction is a little shoddy.  Otherwise, great camera!

great photo quality

My husband bought me this camera the day before my second daughter was to be born. I had been complaining about my old digital taking a long time after taking a picture to be able to take another picture. This one is really really fast when you're outside, but if you're inside and need the flash it takes a while to recycle, unless you use fresh batteries every time. I have two kids so I take a lot of photos every day, and it seems like this camera eats batteries pretty quickly. It's my only pet peeve about the camera though. If they started using a lithium ion rechargeable batteries, like they use on the DSLR cameras it'd be an even bigger contender on the camera market. Otherwise it's great. The picture quality is great, and the different functions allow you to use the camera for practical and artistic uses. It makes it a great camera for a very diverse group of users. I wouldn't suggest it for those who need to take a lot of photos in a short time, but it is a great camera for a busy mom to carry around everywhere she goes.

Not a good camera for distance or consistent clear pictures!

I recieved this camera for Christmas and way very excited that I got a digital camera, but I found out very soon that I would soon be wishing for another camera. At first I used the camera for everyday pictures, like up close easter pictures, new year pictures, family fun photos, cute pics around the house, etc. The pictures were okay, some came out blurry once in a while, but over all it was an okay camera. Then my daughter joined Cheerleading and I thought GREAT! this will be a wonderful way to use my camera. Well the first practice she had I had to stand about 10 feet at the most to be able to get a clear picture, and this didn't make the cheerleading coaches very happy to say the least, and still the picture quality wasn't great. Then my daughter had a football game to cheer at. So I brought along my camera and when I turned it on and held it up to my face to look through the lens, I already knew I was in trouble, it was already blurry and I couldn't even see my daughter, so I tried zooming in and it got even worse, then I changed it to each setting and still every picture I took was blurry. I would not recommed if you need to do ANY shot further than 8 feet away.
