Nice pictures, but something else to remember to take with you

4

Overall, the Canon takes much better photos than either my iPod Touch or my iPhone. But this is to be expected, since picture-taking is its only function - it's not an added feature on what's primarily a phone or MP3 device. The zoom feature is really nice because close-up photos taken on my iPhone and iPod are of a poor, grainy quality. However, the Canon can't zoom in during movie mode, and it only has a mono recording for sound. It's also slower to start up, and the time between being able to take pictures is longer than with my other gadgets. The Canon uses only 2 batteries instead of the more usual 4 in this type of camera, so has a shorter battery life. The Canon has a wheel to scroll through the pictures, and I don't like it as much as being able to scroll through a touch screen with my finger. Even though the wheel eliminates finger marks on the screen, it is sensitive and needs a very light touch. I try to give it one click and it ends up scrolling through 3 to 4 pictures. But my big issue isn't one about the camera itself - it's so convenient to use my phone for pictures that this is something else to have to remember to take with me. So now, I only now for events when I want high quality pictures, both close up and from a distance.

Great mid level camera

This is a great camera for the user who wants to take nice quality pictures, but does't want to reach the level of thinking about exposure and lens types. Takes nice pictures in snow, fireworks, low light, and of course standard settings. Image Quality Obviously there's better cameras out there, but for this price range I would definitely say that this camera is a good choice. Fair number of setting to choose the proper scene for your needs. Ease of Use As easy or as hard to use as you want it to be. If you just want to point and shoot, then go for it the only buttons you would need to know is power and shoot. If you want to have more of a go at it, you can change various setting with increasing consideration of details. Durability Dropped it a few times with no negative consequences. Battery Life I have never seen a camera that had even halfway decent battery life. As far as far as cameras go it's not that bad, but it still dies far faster than anyone would like. Portability Fits in pockets of men's pants but not the pockets of women's pants.

A nice all around camera

I am not a budding photographer, but I do know what crappy pictures look like and I don't want to waste time, space, or money on those. This little camera allows me to take decent pictures without going into debt to do it. I have heard from more than one person who used my camera that, "This is a nice camera" out of the armload they were holding to take a picture with everyone's camera. Image Quality Sometimes the image is great, but especially when using the extended zoom the image can get a little blurry. Also, when it wants to use the flash and you tell the camera, "No" it will sometimes make the image a little blurry. Performance The focus is probably my biggest hangup on this camera. Sometimes it lets me see that it could focus on what I am trying to take a picture of, but then it goes out of focus to take the picture. This only happens when I am too close to the object (within 3 feet). Otherwise it does a pretty decent job--even of action shots. The hardest time to get nice quality pictures is when it is dark, but this seems to be the case with most every camera. Indoor shots are average, but the best shots are, of course, outdoors. Ease of Use I still do not know what all of the buttons are for, but for basic photos it is pretty easy to figure out. Durability I have had this camera for four and a half years now. It is still going strong and still takes the same quality photos that it did when I first purchased it. A great little camera. Battery Life Battery life is much better then the Nikon I was using prior to this camera. This one still feels like it eats batteries, but that is easily remedied when I use rechargeable ones. They will last about 45 minutes to an hour of pretty intense picture taking (where the camera is on for most of the time) and several days if you turn off the camera in between uses. Portability It is a little clunky and takes up a good deal of space in my purse considering this is not one of those intense action cameras. It is not terrible, but it would be a lot more convenient if it was a little slimmer.

I had the old model, and this is even better

Wow I can't say enough about how good Canon is as a brand. My original camera served me 5 years before the screen started to fizz out... and as it turned out Canon OWNED UP TO a mistake, shipped it to themselves, replaced the part, and 10 years later that same digital camera still works. AMAZING. Now with regard to the SX20IS, I owned its precurser the SX10IS, and let me tell you the differences. The SX20 comes with 12 megapixles, while the SX10 came with 10. The SX20 can record HD video while the SX10 records standard video. The SX10 (old one) had a sound recorder which I don't think this has. Finally, the SX20 is lighter weight (a big deal if you travel a lot with this thing) than the SX10. But they're both relatively big cameras. Now... onto performance. The SX10/20 is a GREAT CAMERA for anyone who loves high quality photos but doesn't know what they're doing! For "point and shoot" users, your photos will look borderline professional. The zoom is incredible. While it does get grainy and pixelated at full zoom capacity... the thing is like a telescope so I can't complain. Color quality indoors is not wonderful (but thats typical of all point and shoot cameras!) however outside in bright sunny days is where this SHINES. Stunning, beautiful photos. People will think you've got an EOS and that you're brilliant photography skills masterfully captured the elegance of nature. But no. What's masterful is the technology used in the SX10IS/20IS. Canon is truly the brilliant one. Image Quality Amazing life-like colors, sharp details. Stability control is SO important. Indoors its serviceable but NOT anything to smile over. It falls flat in low light. Performance Great performance, nothing to complain about. In high humidity I noticed the screen flicker but that was my fault for taking such an incredible piece of equipment on the beach with me on a windy day in South Carolina. But how could I resist? Ease of Use You dont really HAVE to understand all the features to take a great picture. It is a point and shoot and it will function even if you don't know what you're doing. but the more you learn the more you'll love the camera and the better it will perform for you. Unfortunately its not super easy to learn if your new to it. but practice makes perfect. read the manual... several times... Durability Over the years the early model of this (SX10IS) has done well. I've taken thousands of photos and it still working great. It might not be operating peak like it used to... but its still doing a good job after 4 years of heavy heavy use. I've gotten my moneys worth already with the stunning photos its given me already, and will continue to in the future. Battery Life No complaints here. I think the battery life is relatively good. Portability Its bulkier than most point-and-shoot cameras but I really think you're getting a better camera. Its easy to hold (or at least I think so) and the neck strap is a plus. AND its fun to look like you're holding something special. It just LOOKS like a serious camera. Find the right case and you wont mind the extra bulk and weight one bit because it will deliver stunning photos for average users.

Love my canon

I have really enjoyed this camera since I got it as a birthday gift from my family. Takes great quality pictures. If you use regular AA batteries, it will drain them in no time, so keep extras handy. Overall I love this camera!

This camera lets you capture photos like a pro!

We got this camera as a Christmas gift from my parents after our Nikkon took a trip through a garbage can filled with beer bottles and got wrecked.  I really like this camera because it is so easy to use, it has a variety of modes which are easy for a begginner photographer, such as myself.  It has a 10x optical zoom which allows you to get up close and personal with objects out of the normal camera viewing range.  It also has image stabalizer and super easy uploading to the computer capabilities.  The display is nice and big so you can easily see your photos.  The display does have a somewhat annoying feature that turns the image when you turn your camera, I am not sure if it is able to be shut off or not, but if it is, I haven't figured it out. We have had this camera for almost 3 years, and within the past couple months the flash quit working all of a sudden, I haven't gotten a chance to bring it in to have it looked at, but I also have a friend with the same camera who this also happened to - not sure if it was a coincidence or not.  Overall, this is a great camera for a beginner like myself, it allows you to take some great pictures and can be purchased on a pretty reasonable budget.

Wonderful semi-professional camera - great value - great photos!

This Canon Powershot SX110 is the perfect camera for the person looking for the next step in point and shoot cameras but not willing to make the full fledged committment to a pricier SLR camera. You get the ease of a point and shoot and the picture quality of a SLR!! The 10X zoom is great for landscapes and outdoor shots, it has great color resolution and it has optical image stabilizing technology so even if your hand shakes a bit, the photo won't look shaky. Here is a list of a some of the great features: Audio recording, direct print, USB 2.0 compatibility, RGB primary color filter, DPOF support, digital image rotation, camera orientation detection, PictBridge support, histogram display, resizing an image, 16:9 widescreen mode, in-camera red-eye fix, face detection   The camera is light and portable and can easily fit into any handbag or small camera bag. Also it takes regular AA batteries so there is no need for pricier camera only batteries which can be a plus. I highly recommend this Canon camera to anyone !

It's all in the name - Canon PowerShot SX110 IS

My hubby bought me this camera for Christmas 2 years ago (actually a friend picked it out). It has been a most amazing, small camera! I immediately began snapping pics with it. This camera is so easy to use that I have barely even looked at the instruction book. I love the way you can change the pic size & quality, because it helps save space on my memory card when I need to. I have taken some really nice portraits & just candid shots with it. It has also stood up well to my young childrens handling of it. They (6yrs & 2ys old) both know how to turn it on & snap pics. It also has a great video feature. You can do a regular video or a compact video (which is easier to download). I love to play with the ISO, changing it to get different lighting effects too. Another great feature is the face select. The only cons - the flash doesn't automatically pop up (maybe I need to read the instruction book...lol) & it drains a battery quickly, especially if videoing.

Have owned Canon PowerShot SX110 for over 5 years!

4

I have owned my Canon PowerShot SX110 for over 5 years, and it has been a great addition to my luggage while traveling in London, and then Italy. There are many more expensive cameras out there, but both my husband and myself have been pleased with the way this camera works: Pictures can be quickly loaded into my computer for sharing with family members. I like the feature that asks if the user would like automatic deletion of the pictures after uploading to computor. The pictures always come out clear and bright...no red eye or blurriness. Even though this is an older model than what's out there, it is still small enough to conveniently carry while on walking tours. There are some drawbacks, but they have not been much of a problem: It may be just me, as my husband doesn't seem to have the same problem, but I occassionaly hit something that turns the camera into "movie mode". It is easily remedied by the touch of a button though. Additionally, it may not take a picture quick enough to get that "right shot". There is a bit of a lag between pressing the button and the flash going off...the picture being taken. All in all, I am quite please with this camera, and have no intentions of upgrading in the near future.

GREAT CAMERA- Canon does it again

5

I am a professional photographer and I know a lot about cameras.  For a point and shoot this camera does a great job- Small enough to carry easily- yet takes great photos and it give you the control you need with the adjustable settings. One of the really important features is the 10x Optical Zoom- You can get great candid shots from a distance without being obvious. Really good for concerts and live music too. You can also turn the flash off very easily - I really hate when a camera has an automatic flash that cannot be turned off. Lots of presets that do a great job- but it also has great manual settings if you want to try things your own way.  Has a large screen to review the photos you take- and you can also zoom in on the image to better see the quality - you also can pan up or down & side to side to zero in on the part you want.  I have been using Canon Cameras for 30 years now- and one of the very best things is the fantastic technical support. I have been on the phone with them for 2 hrs- and if they cannot answer your questions they will escalate the call and let you talk to a more experienced tech.  They really know their stuff. They can teach you a lot about using your camera. The tech support number is 1-800-828-4040. I hignly recommend this camera.
