Best Pic for your Buck

I received this camera as a gift from my husband. Shortly thereafter, we had a baby, and wanted to upgrade me to a SLR camera. So, this camera was handed down to our 8 year old son. I didn't really think he would use it often, if ever, but I am pleasantly surprised and how often he takes pictures. This camera is small enough that he can fit it in his coat pocket, and he takes it to any special event to take pictures. It is very easy to use and takes great photos. He has surprised us all with his eye for nature photography. He has taken some incredible photos of landscapes, and close ups of leaves, flowers, and trees. I am so happy to see him explore the world through a camera lens. If you're looking for an affordable "point and shoot" digital camera, this one is great! But, if you're looking for a camera where you can manually adjust the focus, lighting, shutter speed, etc, this is not the right camera for you. That being said, this camera takes great photos that you can easily edit with any basic photo editing software. Durability My 8 year old uses this camera and it is still in great shape.

It's a great camera for the money and a perfect size.

This is a perfect size camera. I throw it in my purse so I always have it. It takes amazing photos. Great for vacations, kid's events, etc. Works well both indoors and outdoors. Even works works well in places where the lighting is poor.

Great camera for picture lovers!

I loved taking pictures of friends and family so I was very excited when I received this camera as a birthday present last year. I have been so happy with it since day one. It is so easy to use and the touch screen is very slick. I especially love the different settings that allow me to take pictures that have one accent color. I also think it takes exceptional action shots. One really fun feature that I have enjoyed messing around with is the slow motion videos. Watching my mother run around the kitchen in slow motion is sure to provide entertainment for hours.

Handy little camera to take everywhere - not for low light

4

Good, easy to carry camera. Flawed lens cover does not always close and eventually stops closing altogether. Not good for photographing stage performances even when sitting up close using low light settings. Do not buy if you like to take photos of concerts, plays, etc. Video operation is great!! Impressive in such a little camera. Image Quality Without reiterating what others have positively said about this camera, I am disappointed with the quality when it comes to concerts. Even when sitting in front rows, and using the ISO settings for low-light, pictures come out blurred. This is NOT a camera for photographing anything on stage and especially not at a distance. Performance I'm not happy with two things. Like other reviewers complaints on the web, the lens cover stopped automatically closing all the way not long after purchase. With the flick of a fingernail, I could get it to close to protect the lens. Warranty service probably would've covered this repair, but it was the holiday season for goodness sake! and warranty service required it to be sent in and not returned for weeks. I didn't want to miss taking photos during Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthday celebrations that were so prevalent during that time period. Because it did not interfere with taking photos, I didn't send it in, but now the cover won't close at all. So now I'm going to have to pay to have it sent in and serviced and not have it for awhile. There is NO good time to be w/o your camera!! Unless you set it to take rapid fire photos, it really takes too long to photograph and then be ready to take the next photo. Yes, you can turn off the automatic viewing of the picture you just took, but doesn't everyone want to normally check the photo in ordinary circumstances? It just takes too long to switch from taking photo, viewing for the 2 seconds and then back to ready to take another picture again--feels like forever!! Since it is digital, I've found that setting it to take multiple pictures and deleting extras later is the best way to not miss action photos ,or say a celebrity who will only be in view for a few minutes!! Ease of Use Pretty easy to use, although I find it difficult to remember how to change settings, requiring me to be fooling around trying to find how to get to certain settings. I think it could have been a little more user-friendly to help lead you from one setting to another. Durability Really tough camera. Battery Life Seems good, until after you've taken some photos. If you don't charge it up that night, the next time you take some photos, it will die!! So, always charge up after you've used it! Portability Lightweight and can fit in a pocket or purse phone slot just like a cell phone.

Not a very good camera in my opinion

I bought this camera back in december 2010 for a christmas gift and I regret for buying it! The quality is not that great and there is alot of problems with the functions. You probably need a very steady hand when taking the pictures or else it will turn out very blurry. I am thinking of returning it and buying a new one. I have always like Canon but i dont think this one is worth the money. You are better off buying a different one. The only thing i like about this camera is price which is cheap when i got it. Other than that, everything else sucks. The touchscreen is not that sensitive and sometimes you have to push it pretty hard for it to work. Overall, a bad camera in my opinion so don't buy it!@!!

The 980IS is close to perfect

This is my third Canon PowerShot camera. I love them -- but I've also come to realize that they can't be expected to have a long life span even with the greatest amount of care. My last two were returned to Canon while under warranty for "lens error" notifications that occurred completely out of the blue. Canon repaired & replaced what needed to be done at no cost, but it was an inconvenience & annoyance. However, when it was time for a new camera, the quality of the images and versatility of this small & reasonably priced camera won me over yet again. I compared to all other brands in the same price range and went with Canon yet again. My only operational complaint is that I don't think the macro setting is particularly good. All other settings are first rate. Takes remarkably sophisticated pictures in a tiny package! I will say that I am careful to keep my camera in a simple & inexpensive zipped case: these cameras are great but a little too fragile.

Excellent Picture Quality with a little bit of noise

5

The Canon SD980/ IS is an excellent point and shoot camera. At first glance of the manual touchscreen controlsappear slightly confusing. Just try it. Turns it was a lot easier than I expected. The Canon's picture quality is excellent with a little bit of noise. The noise is nothing a Canon printer cannot clean up for you. One downside is that when you are in Auto there is no way to force flash. You have to go to programmable mode to force flash. However programmable mode is easy to navigate with tons of options. The camera video capture feature takes pretty good video. It is not 720P but it is good quality.

The Canon - PowerShot SD980 IS is a great compact camera

The Canon - PowerShot SD980 IS / Digital IXUS 200 IS Digital Camera is an awesome point and shoot camera.  I have a larger, digital SLR but sometimes it's just not convenient to take such a large camera so I bought this smaller point and shoot.  It has many features that the bigger, more expensive cameras have.  It is slim and can even slip into a pocket or purse.  It has a good quality lense.  You can also use this camera using the manual controls.  It has some neat features on it like the color accent that lets you shoot a picture in black and white except for one particular color that you pick out.  It also has a nice zoom, anti-shake feature.  It shoots movies and even has a movie mode that makes the movies small enough to email.  All in all it is a very good camera for the money.  I did have one problem with the lense not going back in however I sent it back to Canon and it was fixed in no time and I have had no problems since.
