The best camera's going, Canon

By

from Troy, MI

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD800 / IXUS 850 Digital Camera:

Very pleased with this camera, if you want a bunch of features you have it but for most people just the ability to rotate and have the screen rotate is great, along with the simplicity of shooting a picture that turns out great with no effort or real skill.

Like the stability control and the kids love the video shooting ability, which with a large card is quite significant. We have 20 minute videos of fairly good quality with no issue and it isn't like my 35mm digital which intimidates people.

First P&S Own...Still a Classic

By

from Houston, TX

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD800 / IXUS 850 Digital Camera:

This was my first Canon P&S and more importantly, my first big name camera.  I own a cheap non-name camera before, and this blow it out of the water.  This is definitely compact by all of its definition.  Despite being only 7 megapixel, this camera takes very sharp pictures, is very responsive, and has great battery life.  Add in some nice features like SDHC (I don't think the previous model has this feature), DIGIC III processor compared to the older DIGIC II, face detection, and sharper lcd screen, this camera is a true winner.  The build is solid and the camera feels very good in the hand.  The pictures are very good...preferrably with lower ISO settings. Anything over 200 can be a major headache. Unfortuntely, this is where you see canon jump on the MP bandwagon as with the rest of the major brands, each trying to outdo the other by cramming more MP into a smaller body. I still consider this canon a masterpiece along with the legendary sd700 as well as fuji old school f30 and f31.

One of the best Canon point and shoots

By

from Anaheim, CA

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD800 / IXUS 850 Digital Camera:

The Canon PowerShot SD800 is an amazing camera for a point and shoot.  I loved it until the day it got stolen from me on a cruise ship.  The reason why I purchased the camera, compared to any other Canon was because it has a wide angle lens, which is rare with any of the other Canon SD point and shoots.  Picture quality was great, and while there is some barrel effect, nothing too major for the average camera user.  The edges were a little soft as well, but again, nothing an average camera user will be disappointed with.  Canon is always setting the bar with their lens quality, and this camera is no exception.  Their image stabilization is also amazing, and I almost never got a blurry shot as long as the settings were set up correctly.  This also has a viewfinder, so if charging your battery is going to be hard, you can turn off the LCD screen and take pictures through the good ol' view finder.  The main downfall of this camera is the limited 3.8x optical zoom which plagues all Canon SD cameras.  I moved on from Canon though, since their selection of wide angle lenes has become non-existant from their SD line, but would love to get another one if they started offering them again.

Outstanding Point and Shoot

By

from Ridgecrest, CA

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD800 / IXUS 850 Digital Camera:

I own a DSLR and this little Canon SD800is, and I find myself using the point and shoot at least twice as often as the DSLR. This fits in your pocket, takes incredible photos, and takes a beating. This camera has been with me on multiple international backpacking trips where it was really put through its paces being beat up in my pocket with no protection, used near spraying waterfalls, and dropped numerous times. I have punished the heck out of it and it keeps working and taking phenominal photos. The only issue I've come across since owning the SD800 is that I kept receiving the "change battery pack" message over and over. The fix to this is a small piece of cardboard/thick paper under the battery door. This pushes the battery down a bit futher in and fixes the warning message. Much less annoying than starting your camera up and constantly seeing a warning message. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone needing a small portable camera that works everytime and takes amazing photos.

Canon PowerShot SD800 is perfect for families on the go

By

from Hudsonville, MI

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD800 / IXUS 850 Digital Camera:

This Canon camera has probably been my favorite point and shoot camera that we've owned.  It incorporates an easy zoom feature with the twist of the top button, simple on/off button, auto-focus as well as more settings than you'll probably ever need for day to day shots, but are fun to have.  I especially prefer the higher ISO settings which allow you to focus on fine print (like a newspaper, etc).  The viewing screen is relatively large and very easy to see.  It takes decent images in the dark with the flash...not usual of your typical point and shoot.  You can also review the images stored on the memory card and zoom in/out while in the play mode.  Our camera has been dropped (unfortunately!) on several occasions and has never broken...I give it an A+ for durability (especially with children).  We've used this camera for 3 years now and have loved it!  Highly recommend for families who just want to capture those day to day shots :)

Awsome Camera that is worth the price

By

from Pflugerville, TX

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD800 / IXUS 850 Digital Camera:

I got the Cannon SD800 camera last Christmas and took it with me on my European vacation.  Since it is an SD camera, it is very small, yet has a very large LCD screen compared to most cameras of its size.  Also, the optical image stabilization is a must.  There have been many instances where I thought that I would not get the picture due to movement of the camera.  However, to my surprise, the image stabilization worked flawlessly and helped produce crisp pictures.

One thing that is interesting about this camera is that it has a lens that allows you to get a wider field of view than is possible with most cameras.  This allows you to be very close to large buildings and still get the entire building in the picture.  Of course, being a Canon camera makes it easy and intuitive to operate this camera, even if you choose not to read the user's guide.
