I did quite a bit of research to track down a good camera for us - first time digital camera buyers.  The 800IS combines the three features I was most focused on:

  1. Image Stabilization - The 800IS does this well, except when you have the flash off and try to take a photo indoors.  We still haven't figure out how to do this.
  2. Point and Shoot - Pre-set your 'Auto' settings, flip the dial to 'Auto' and click away.  Nice and easy, we're not the type to buy fancy lenses and twiddle with settings too much.
  3. Customization - Although I don't want to fiddle with settings all the time I have a lot of choices...

I love taking pictures and I was out in the market looking for a digital camera.  I have always heard that canons take great pictures and I did a lot of research.  I always do a lot of research on things i buy.

What I liked about the sd800 was that it has an image stabilizer.  And to the tech savvy people out there it has a digi 4 processor.  this is the fastest processor out in the market for the canon brand.  In my opinion it is 2nd to sony's new processor.  But the quality of the picture is by far better than the others i have tried out.

The color is more true.  The pictures are less blurred. ...

For a point and shoot, this camera is high quality!  I can tell a huge difference between the results from my previous digital camera and this one.  Pictures are clearer and the ISO makes a dramatic difference!  The software that came with the camera is easy to use and manages my pictures appropriately.  I take a lot of pictures, so it's nice to have them organized by date.  Canon puts out some really great products, and I'm glad we chose to purchase the SD800.  It's a great size and easy to travel with.  It's also nice that it uses SD memory cards that are easy to find.  My previous digital... review »

I bought my Canon SD800 iS at Staples for a trip to Texas that I took with my family. Before buying this camera I solely relied on disposables for all my pictures because I have no idea how to use film. I thought digital photography sounded like a dream come true.

Now I really wish I had gotten a digital camera sooner. For my first son I took him to the photo places and got pictures done with some regularity but I never had very many at home pictures of things that he did. When I got this camera he was about 18 months old and we were planning a vacation to southern Texas to visit his great grandparents....

The Canon SD800 has a great lens and produced great images, all in an attractive, pocketable, metal body. The 7-megapixel camera's tiny body is shiny, curvy, and very attractive. But it may be just a bit too stylish for its own good. For instance, the power button is a tiny, illuminated half-oval built flush into the top panel; without actually pressing it, you might easily mistake it for an indicator light or a design flaw.

The SD800 also uses the recent Digic III image processor, which Canon claims improves image quality, performance, and battery life.
Beyond those quirks, though, the SD800...

I got this camera (Canon SD800 IS) on sale for just about $200 a year ago.  It was the best point-and-shoot camera I've ever own.  This camera takes pictures just as good as my $1500 DSLR Canon.  About the only complain I have is the limited zoom (3x).  But other than that, this camera has exceed all my expectations.  The pictures come out clear and crisp.  Even the LCD images look nice.  It takes great pictures whether it's indoor or outdoor.  The flash is adaquate for almost all occasions (except maybe when you're like 30 feet away with little or no light).  This camera focuses fairly...

My husband surprised me with a new camera.  I had been using a larger model, thinking that bigger was better.  I was so wrong! I love using my Canon PowerShot  SD960 IS digital ELPH!  It is small enough to fit in my purse and is very user friendly.  It has a 2.5" screen, so it makes viewing your pictures easy.

Another important feature is that it doen't pull certain colors.  Some cameras will pull red or blue (certain colors can be hard to photograph and appears distorted on paper).  This Canon displays colors in their true shades.  This is an extremely important feature to me.  I use...

I upgraded to this camera a few years ago after having to put up with a Nikon Coolpix for a long time that just wasn't up to snuff.  The Canon PowerShot SD800 IS, however, is a wonderful change.  This camera has taught me to love photography.  Being a complete amateur when it comes to taking pictures, this camera makes it extremely easy.  The settings and features are easy to use, the zoom is great (and maintains the quality of the picture while giving it a watercolor kind of look to it if you choose to zoom all the way out to 15x), and the auto focus does extremely well.  What I love is that...

Bought the camera from Buydig.com for $309 two years ago. The shipping was really fast it surprised me because I read some reviews about the seller and some people had problems with shipping. Mine came in 2 days time! Everything came in perfect condition.

I'm an amateur photographer. This is my very first time owning a digital camera, so I just point and shoot. The camera produces great pictures. Especially when I take pictures of food. They all turn out great. The Image Stabilizer is useful for a clumsy person like me.

The thing that I don't like about the camera is that it does not have a battery...

I have always been a Sony user. Actually, my family has always relied upon Sony as being the leader in electronics and accessories. And because of this preconditioning, I've just always have had a Sony digital camera. Only recently, after breaking my T-33 did I contemplate and consider another brand. The design, quality and price of the Canon SD800IS were the main selling points for the camera. Though not as thin as my previous T-33, the 800IS was still conveniently sized for me to throw into my purse at the whim. It's ability to turn on quickly and take photos quickly was also a great surprise.... review »

This camera takes fantastic, wonderful quality photos.  It has tons of features and after using for a short time it is really pretty user friendly.  I especially like the accent color feature.  This is the first digital camera that I've owned that has audio with the video and it really does a good job.  Macro pictures turn out well.  The image stablizer is a nice feature and I chose this camera over the Canon 850 because of the wide angle feature.  This model is slightly larger than some of the other ELPH cameras but still small enough to put in a purse or pocket.

All I have to say is that it's the best camera that I own. It's conveniently sized for me to throw into my purse. Its ability to turn on quickly and take photos quickly was also great. The reason why I have this camera is to have with me all the time and it's so small that it fits in my purse and I'll always have it with me when ever I want to take a picture or something I like I take it out of my purse and then point and shoot. It's a lot easier to have a small camera to have when your in a hurry to get out of the house instead of a big one.

Canon has very good reputation in producing some of the best cameras, and this is an inclusion in that list.

i have this camera for the last 6 months, and i am glad i have it.

it works so well that i keep this camera with me all the time.

it has excellent clarity result as compared to same category other brand cameras.

it shots at the same time of pressing button, so no waiting gap..and that feature impresses me more.

other features are good to have.

This camera was recommended by a friend for its large viewing screen and stabilization feature. I purchased it as a gift for my parents (mom is the shutterbug) as their first digital camera. They were intimidated by the box. But once I got them to open it, they discovered the instructions were easy to follow. As an added bonus, they could begin to use the camera immediately using just a few of the features, learning about and incorporating more features as they go along.

This has really been the best camera I have ever owned. All I do is point and shoot and the results are always awesome. I am not really into technology I like the quick and easy things and this camera basically does all the magic on its own!!! My pictures turn out great time after time after time. And the memory on it is great I have been using it for awhile now and I still have lots of room for more to put on there.
