Canon - PowerShot SD400 Digital Camera Review Summary

Canon scores again with the Canon PowerShot. Camera reviewers like this handy little point and shoot digital camera that is small but takes great pictures. The PowerShot doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the SLR professional digital cameras, but many amateur photographers never switch out of automatic mode on the expensive digital cameras. Karilyn says, "I love the ease of it," If you want to take great family photos and save and share your memories, consumers who bought this high rated digital camera say it’s a great little camera. Benknows best says, "Once you get the hang of this camera and have figured out all the cool functions that are possible in the menu, you can have a lot of fun"

I am photo-obsessed and order lots of prints. So, having a camera that I really like is essential. This is my second digital camera and I love it. The shots are quick and there is not a lot of delay between the shots. I love the ease of it, the small size and how easy it is to use/upload images. If this... review »

This is a great camera for everyday use, very compact and lightweight.  My only complaint is the delay in taking a picture, and also the delay in between taking consecutive pictures.  Many perfect moments are lost in those split second delays.

I also wish there were more choices for flash settings....

I admit it, I tend to be one of "those" people.  You know the ones who constantly have a camera at what to you may seem like the most dreadful moments.  Yet, two weeks later after the picture has circulated, you can laugh out loud about that moment!  My friends always thank me later.  :)

This camera is my key to success.  It's compact, light, easy to use and fits right in my purse or pocket.  By comparison, it's about the same size as a deck of cards, maybe smaller.  With options for nighttime, manual, indoor, outdoor, even kids (who knew there was a setting for taking pictures of kids!)...

Once you get the hang of this camera and have figured out all the cool functions that are possible in the menu, you can have a lot of fun with this camera. It has everything you will ever need. My favorite function (and why I will always buy Canon cameras) is the Color Accent option. This lets you select one color to have show up in the picture, with every other color being in black and white. I have spent many hours on a bus or airplane fighting boredom using this function. The pictures look amazing, no matter what your subject matter! This camera has taken quite a beating and keeps on going.... review »

So..Before I recieved my Canon as a gift from my Mother, I had a Kodak, and before that a Sony. I loved my Sony - it was a $500.00 compact camera that took excellent pictures and was easy to use (espescially when switching from flash, video, effects, or panoramic). What had happened with that is my then 2 year old son got a hold of it and dunked it in a puddle of water forcing myself to buy a budget camera for school (online art classes) until I could I afford another wonderful shooter. Well, every parent knows that actually buying expensive products and risking them to the abuse of our young children... review »

In 2002 I received the Canon PowerShot camera as a gift .  It came with a rechargeable 3.7V battery, and my brother bought me a 2nd battery so I can charge one and use one, and never be without power.  Changing the battery is so easy.  The size of the camera is wonderful: 3 1/4 x 2 1/4 x1 inch makes it easy to take anywhere.  It actually fits in a shirt pocket!  It also has a handy wrist strap so I don't have to be bothered with a camera bag.  The SD cards come in various sizes, but I prefer the 250mb.  The viewfinder is small, but I have had no trouble taking great pictures with this camera. ...

First off, I'll start with the one downside to this product: its battery life --- although not too short, it will only last for about 200 pics or maybe 75 vids.

But other than that, the image and video qualities are incredible! It has the most speedy and easy-to-use functionality of any <7 megapixel camera i've ever used, and its modes are simple and versatile: especially the night mode, which makes fireworks come out great, and also can grab the background images in a dark setting --- which is almost nonexistent with other brands.

For anyone who needs a fairly inexpensive and top-of-the-line digital...

I have owned a Canon SD400 for close to four years now and could never have asked for a better camera.  Not only is the size perfect because it is compact enough so that you can put it in your pocket, purse or any small space but it is so easy to use.  The features are outstanding.  There are special digital micro settings, black and white settings, sephia setting and my favorite is a feature you can use to pick one color and when you take a photo it only creates that color and the rest of the image is in black and white.  This feature is amazing for anyone who is looking to take there photography...

the Canon sd400 is a great point and shoot digital camera!!

i have had it for four plus years and it is still working very well!! It was my second digital camera i have ever purchased and i did not even have to read the manual because it is so easy to use. There are also a lot of cool functions on there such as the color option where u select a color and only that color will show up and everything else is black and white which is pretty cool. i travel a lot so i take lots of photographs of scenery. it works great for being a simple point and shoot camera. however, it does not take great night pictures...

The Canon PowerShot SD400 Digital ELPH was unveiled as part of Canon's wide ranging digital camera announcements at this year's Photo Marketing Association tradeshow. The Canon SD400 is a lot like an SD-card based version of the prior PowerShot S400 in Canon's popular, diminutive Digital ELPH camera line. The Canon SD400 and SD500 models both offer extremely unusual (and frankly, rather cool) "My Color" modes that allow you to selectively replace any color in your photo with a different one, or to make the image black and white with the exception of a single color. The Canon PowerShot SD400 features... review »

I have not had good luck with cameras lately, this being my third one in about 2 years.  I am certain that I have finally found something that will work for me.  The small size makes it very easy to carry in my pocket, the large screen on the back is great, and the speed it uploads onto my computer is the best I have seen yet.  I also like all of the little extras that are on the camera.  My youngest daughter really enjoys the paint option.  I have also found the slideshow option to be very handy when I am sharing pictures with others.  The background music adds a little extra fun to it. ...

I've had this camera for several years and absolutely love it.  It is very durable and has lasted through multiple drops, spills, and environmental conditions.  It is about the same size as a deck of cards or a pack of cigarettes so it is easy to drop it in your pocket and take it everywhere.  It is packed with more features than I ever use.  I can typically fit about 1800 pictures on a 1 GB SD card and still have good picture size and resolution.  I recently recommended a newer model of the Canon camera to my employer.  I have taken great action pictures of my kids as well as great nature... review »

I have owned my SD400 for over 2 years and it was the best choice at the time for the money. Once this one goes I will go to the SD850, but this one has gone through a lot and still works beautify. I bought it to capture all my memories up and down the California coast from San Diego to San Francisco to cross country trips from San Jose to New York. I was able to capture the stars with the 15-second shutter delay to the rich green color of trees at some of our nations National Parks with the Vivid Green effect. So if you’re the armature not so tech savvy to the experienced photographer and just... review »

With so many digital camera choices out on the market, it's often hard to know which one to pick!

While our technology choices are often so specialized and subjective--because of different preferences, monetary constraints, lifestyle pace, etc--I feel like this is one product that would appease even the pickiest of picture takers as it is SO easy to use!!

I didn't even have to read the instruction manual to start immediately taking and previewing my pictures!

Besides its ease-of-use, it's light-weight, compact, sturdy, and slips into a purse or pocket so that you--truly--never have to leave home...
