All I wanted for Christmas was a GOOD digital camera. After my husband agreed that this would be our joint present and would spend around $250, I began to research cameras and reviews. As a member of MYPOINTS, I searched through their numerous sites selling cameras and read reviews for 6 hours. What I found was that the Canon Digital Elph SD1000 IXUS 70 had consistently good reviews in the over 200 that I read. All other cameras had something that made me think....maybe I don't want that one. The cons for this camera first....No low battery indicator, red eye on some indoor shots (fixed with the included software) and no image stabilization. As for the pro's, I can't say enough. I was worried that the 7.1 megapixels would not produce good pictures since there are higher megapixels available. Not so with this little beauty. It is small, about the size of a deck of cards yet my husband and son who have large hands find it easy to use. It has a camcorder built in. Picture quality is very good. It has a "face finder". I don't like to read "how to" manuals and this was easy to operate without hours of reading. However, it does include a thin basic guide and a thicker advanced guide for when I want to go more techie. All included guides came in duplicate...one set in English and one in Spanish which is a benefit to the spanish speaking community. The software for the pc included was easy to understand and includes lots of extras to edit photos with. As this is my first digital camera outside of the one on my cell phone....I am more than pleased. It is. also, in an excellent price range. All sites I checked sold for $199 but Best Buy had a sale for $179 with a free 1gb sd card. Well worth the money spent. I would recommend this camera to all but the professional photographer who would want higher megapixels. Hurrah for the Canon Elph.
