Easy to use with good picture quality

4

I was somewhat disappointed to receive this camera for a Christmas present as I had been wanting a Kodak model; however, my father-in-law had reviewed Consumer Reports and other information sources that said the model I wanted was not as good as this model. While this does take good pictures, there have been some issues with the workmanship of the camera that have made me decide not to purchase another Canon in the future. The battery door broke after replacing the batteries several times through normal use. This is a common defect among Canon cameras. Once this happens, the batteries drain more quickly, and the camera will periodically shut off if the door jiggles around too much. It's a disappointing defect in an otherwise decent camera. Image Quality Image quality is good, but I believe that Kodak digital cameras capture color quality better than this one does. Ease of Use Easy to point and shoot, although sometimes it had difficulty focusing. Durability The battery door on this camera, as well as other Canon cameras that I have used, seems to have some kind of flaw causing the plastic piece that holds it shut to eventually snap off. This causes the battery to drain faster. I had to use a broccoli band to hold the door shut. Battery Life The battery life was good until the battery door broke.

Very happy with this camera!

We bought this camera when our second child was born.  It was an upgrade for a lessor Canan camera.  I love the ease of use with this camera.  The delay when using the flash is sometimes really long.  I haven't quite figured out why it's longer at certain times and pretty fast at others.  I love the big LCD screen.  I love that I can take 2+ minute vidoe clips of my kids.

Great camera but be aware of red eye issues!

This is a great little camera with a big plus for the image stabilization.  I love the camera's awesome images with one minor exception: nasty red eye!  Yes, I have it set to adjust for red eye with the preflash, but often times that really doesn't have much of an impact.  I was told by a professional photographer the problem is in the camera's design.  From what he said, the flash is too close to the lens so that it cannot adjust fast enough to account for the red eye.  I am CONSTANTLY editing pictures to take out the red eye.  Needless to say, I hate that part.  If you really worry about red eye, look elsewhere...

Features are similar to those of the PowerShot A700, another camera in Canon's line. Standouts include controls for manual exposure and aperture and shutter priority, as well as flash compensation, which lets you roll back flash output power, and second-curtain flash, which fires the flash as the shutter closes so that moving objects don't end up with trails in front of them when you're using the flash. This happens a lot when shooting cars at night; with second-curtain flash, the headlights end up with slight trails behind them instead of looking like laser beams. Of course, if you like the laser look, you can also choose first-curtain (a.k.a. normal) flash, which is the default.

Easy to use, great zoom!

My first foray into digital photography. I'm a 35 mm camera user from way back, and wasn't thrilled about going digital. I read lots of reviews and chose the Canon based on reviews claiming ease of use, 6x Zoom and image stabilizer. So glad I did! I would absolutely recommend this one. Like all digitals, I hear, you need to upgrade the memory card, especially if you use the video option, but that's no biggie at all. I also like the Canon Website for support and downloads.

I did a lot of forum searching before buying the A710 for a good pocket camera (great belt case camera) to whip out when my big DSLR was put safely away. As a Pro. photographer, I am very impressed with the quality of the pictures the 710 turns out,"BUT" the LCD is so dim, you can't see a thing in daylight. Thank goodness for the optical view finder, it has saved a lot of  shots for me.

The powershot a710 IS is one of the best products that i have bought for the money.  It is compact, reliable and takes a great picture.  Downloading the pictures from the camera to the computer was hard at first, but once you got the hang of it, it was easy.  I bought it with the printer and the printer takes up alot of toner, but the pictures come out great.  I would highly recommend this camera for the reliabilty and picture quality.  It is definatley worth more than the price i paid for it.  The screen is very clear and the quality of the picture was outstanding.  The only downfall, but not a major one is that it takes up alot of battery power.  I have to change the batteries at least once a month if i use the camera consistantly.  The video on the camera is also excellant as well as the sound from the camera.  Both are of high quality.  The video takes up alot of the battery as well.

I bought this camera a week before a vacation and I have been nothing but happy with my purchase. It has been highly reliable and I have been so pleased with the quality of the photos that it takes. The battery life is quite short when taking as many pics as someone like myself does!! I just learned to carry several back up batteries with me and replace as needed to avoid a dead battery catastrophe!! I would buy another one in a heart beat.

My Canon is my ONLY camera now

I absolutely love this little camera.  It takes wonderful pictures and it is so easy to upload all the images to my computer.  The image stabilazation is the biggest plus...If you move or if your picture subject moves, it does not blur the picture.  I have taken pictures while riding on our four wheeler and captured still pictures while we were on the move.  This little camera does it all.  It also has video that you can make little movie clips with it just as if you had a camcorder in your hand.  Depending on the size of your memory card you can get thousands of  pictures on this camera as well as some video also.  It has automatic flash and it has all different types of picture views you can take..Landscape, portrait, night snapshot, night scene.  It is fully automatic or you can manually set it.  It has stitch assist also, which helps in putting pictures together for a collage..It is a good camera and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a great camera at a really great price.  The picture with this review is one I tool on the four wheeler following one in front of us and as you can see...we are both moving and it is still a great picture.
