Nice, but bulky

This camera is nice and I am sure that it does more than what I use it for! I know that it will also do video, but we simply use the iPad for that. I love that I can use the cord or the card to upload photos to my computer. It is quick to take the photo, so fuzzy photos are a thing of the past! Image Quality Great photos! Ease of Use too bulky for my hands

What a great digital camera.

The Canon PowerShot A640 is a small but powerful little digital camera, which is so easy to use it's basic features. There are tiny pictures on the camera which tell you where everything is so you do not have to memorize what all the gadgets are. My child has no problem taking photos with this camera. Viewing previously taken photos is just a switch away.

This is a very versatile digital camera.

I want to be able to take clear shots without a lot of fuss. This camera does just that. I don't have the patience to fuss with settings and light and aperture opening. I want all that done for me and this model is perfect for a point and shoot person like me. I appreciate that there is a setting for taking pictures at night, for movies and also for panoramic shots. I used to have to take several pictures of the scenery and then try to mesh them together with my computer. The results were less than perfect most often. This model has a stitch feature that makes pan shots so easy. This is my second digital Canon camera and the very best thing about this model is that it uses AA batteries, either rechargeable or regular. Double A batteries are available all over so no more missing shots because the special batteries were no longer holding much of a charge. For the amateur photographer who just wants nice photos of good quality, I highly recommend the Canon PowerShot A640.

I couldn't live withoput my canon A640

I love this camera!! The ONLY thing I do not like about it is that you have to have it in post card mode to have the date stamp on your photos!! Other then that it takes great quality pictures and video!! It takes 4 AA batteries and I use the energizer rechargeables and they last FOREVER in it!! And I use my camera almost daily with my new baby!! I really don't have anything bad to say about it other then the date stamp part!! Great product!! Ohh it also has a screen that can move in so many ways....exspecially nice for those people who love to turn the camera around and take a pic by yourself because you can see the screen and don't have to keep trying over and over to get a good one!!!

This camera is awesome!

I previously owned an older model of the Casio Exilim and used it so much (and dropped it a few times) that when I needed to replace it, I bought the newer model of the same camera, because I liked it so much.  The newer model is a little thicker than the previous but worth it because it is way better quality.  I highly recommend it.

Really great pictures - bad video

3

Image quality and picture modes are awesome - shutter lag is a bit annoying. However video quality is good - just cannot be used using zoom - very annoying. Battery life si good since it uses AA batteries - you probably want to use a fast speed 4GB card else the video will chew up the memory so fast it'll make your head spin. The flash is a bit weak but the image quality is awesome if you set the shutter speed low - all in all I'd give it a 6.0 better to get the powershot.

Canon PowerShot A640 - Best Compact Digital I've EVER Used

5

I've had 5 different digital compact cameras, and the Canon A640 is, by far, the best I've used. It takes gorgeous, crisp photos. I've owned 2 Kodak and 3 other Canon models, so I have some perspective. There are few, if any, technical issues that I find distracting, though I know some users do. There are two things in particular that I like best about the A640. First, I like to enlarge my best photos, and those that I have enlarged retain their sharpness with little to no color fading. Details remain vivid. Second, the available telephoto and wide angle auxilliary lenses provide a big boost in the camera's versatility. Of course, even they won't allow you to reach the level of a true reflex camera, but they go a long way toward expanding my ability to get photos I probably would not otherwise be able to secure with such a small camera. Overall, the A640 has a huge number of features for such a light and small compact. I always carry it along on trips of any kind. My trips to Hawaii have yielded some of the most beautiful memories due to my having this little camera with the big advantages along with me. I wouldn't trade this little baby for any other compact digital.

Easy to use and light!

My husband bought this camera for me for a cruise we were going on and I loved using it!  It was so easy to use and, even though I had to read the whole manual to understand its million settings, it was easy to get around once I did.  It is light and has an amazing clarity with the pictures that come out. I can easily and quickly delete any pictures that I don't like (blurs, eye blinks, etc) and switch between panorama and short movies with one turn. The pictures are clear, and crisp. He bought this for me when 10MP were pretty much unheard of and this was one of the groundbreakers. Many of the new 10MP cameras that are out there today and nowhere close to being as clean and as easy to use. I wouldnt trade this for anything.

Great for all photo enthusiasts

I had outgrown my Canon Powershot A520.  It was a a great little point-and-shoot camera, but my needs had outgrown the camera. And my particular camera had been used so much over its lifespan that the quality of the camera had decreased; The Canon Powershot A640 is an excellent camera. Canons "run in my family." I was looking around at this and that, and I came across the 10-megapixel A640 and that was it. It was "the one." The durability of the camera is amazing. I love how heavy it is in my hands!  Maybe it's psychological, but when a camera is too light, I feel as though I have a lower-quality product. This camera doesn't weigh 100 lbs, but it isn't flimsy either. It's a nice comfortable camera. The way it is designed to have a grip on the right side is wonderful. The LCD was a huge improvement for me. I think that a 2.5" screen is the perfect size.  It's a great little screen, and I love the finish (although it does get smudgy quickly). I have become an obsessive lens-and-screen cleaner. The best thing about the LCD is, of course, the ability of it to pop out and swivel like a video camera LCD. This was the feature that put my decision to buy it over the top.  The angles the LCD can turn to are wonderful! Battery life is excellent. Canon brags about high battery life on this one - and they are right on the money! This camera uses 4 batteries instead of 2 and it makes a huge difference. I am SO GLAD that it uses 4. This helps with recharging the flash and menu/playback speeds. And the battery life is superb. Always have an extra set on hand just in case, though. This camera uses SD/MMC cards, which was something I prefer. I wouldn't even consider any other kind of memory. Since I have so many SD cards and I didn't want to start over building up a store of cards. My primary card is a 2GB, and I think this camera needs at least a 1GB to use regularly. The file sizes are HUGE on the highest setting. I actually like that, since it allows for such great photo quality.  Photo quality, by the way, is wonderful. 10 megapixels really does the trick! The photos are really superb. The zoom feature is pretty average. The digital zoom isn't as horrible as some people have made it out to be. Most  of my zoomed images have been clear. Nothing spectacular, nothing bad. The carry strap that comes included is fine for its purpose, but I really think it needs an around-the-neck strap.   Overall, this camera is great. I definitely recommend this

Canon - Power Shot For those momerable moments

3

Guys i can give you all one guarantee that you can very well take this camera to the middle of the waterfall at niagara. Yes you can take Canon Power Shot to capture those very lovely, breathtaking, nostalgic and memorable movements. I am not saying that the camera will not give away. We took the snaps right in middle of the nigara waterfall and the camera just gave way. Its most of the features like night shot and video and all that just stopped working and we were very disappointed. But then after 10 days what we guess is that the circuits that were mosit and had water all evaporated and camera came back to its normal self. I can tell you its really durable and we have been having this little guy with us for the past 2 and half years. So i will really like to recommend this brand and also this specific camera to all those guys who are looking for durability along with cost effectiveness. The only reason i gave it 3 is that its a little bulky and not sleek like the latest camears.
