Canon PowerShot A630 Digital Camera —

I am a photoaholic.  I've always enjoys taking photos, scrapbooking and framing.  As a Mom of two gorgeous children, it is hard to just not be snap happy.  My prize camera for taking my Christmas card photos or Easter portraits is my Canon Digital Rebel XS  However the PowerShot A630 is a great camera that produces above average photos.  There are times, like when horseback riding or touring New York city, that I don't want the weight or the expense of my Canon Digital Rebel XS strapped on but I still want to be able to get great photos.   That's when the PowerShot A630 is the perfect camera.

The Canon PowerShot A630 has 21 shooting modes, including video, with 8 mega pixel resolution.

You do have to purchase a memory card and it also needs four AA batteries.

What I really like about the Canon PowerShot A630:

It's so lightweight- under a pound.  It has a wrist strap and it is easy to carry or lightweight enough to throw in your purse.

The flip out LCD screen is large and makes it so easy to see what you are photographing or videoing.  You never have to look through a tiny peephole or try to decide if the picture is good based on a tiny square.

Of course the most important component of a camera is the photograph outcome.  I 've been very pleased with both the clarity and color and the nice, crisp edges, especially in landscape and sky photos.

My Viewpoint: The Canon PowerShot A630 is a great, lightweight camera that offers above average photograph capability.  It is easy enough for a novice to use but has enough options to please an experience photographer as well.  The large, flip out LCD screen is a big plus.

In response to steve9631's comment from Jul 27, 2009 at 10:56AM:

No it doesn't Steve which is a bummer. At least they aren't the expensive lithium and they are easy to find but that is one down side. I used this one again this week end though horseback riding because it is light weight enough and although I would hate to lose it, it wouldn't be the disaster to me that it would be to lose my expensive camera. Luckily we returned safely, although quite sore, with the camera and some great photos too. Thanks for reading.

Funny....I'm a photoaholic too. I've been toying with the idea of the point and shoot for the same reasons you have stated, and maybe you've persueded me. The batteries are a bummer though. Does it have the option of a chargable battery supply? Good review.

I have a digital Canon also and love it although after almost 2 yrs I still haven't figured out most of the features. I am thinking about going into Scrapbooking as soon as I have purchased my laptop and can appropriate extra cash somewhere else. I fell into the embossed stamping hobby and it lasted all of 6 months so I have to be diligent about the next thing I pursue ;+)
