Love this printer!

This Canon MX850 All-in-One Printer is the best ink jet printer I have ever owned. It prints two-sided, converts to booklets, has memory card capability, scans great, faxes well, copies great, and is a total work horse. I like the separate ink tanks, but dislike the fact that it does go through ink pretty quickly. The cartriges, however, are fairly reasonably priced. It has a paper cartridge that I only recently took the time to find and fill and works great. The paper feed capability is a nice option, though I rarely use it. It is pretty much plug-n-play, which is great when you are always in a rush like I am. I like the flat bed scanner option, in case of copying or scanning something with binding. I give the reduce/enlarge option a c-, since the copy tends to come out somewhat grainy. It has a trimming option, which I haven't the faintest clue as to what it is, but it is an option. It prints nearly as nice as a color lazer and I like it tremenously. On an end note, I'd add that the Canon brand ink is worth the price.

The canon MX850 is a great all-purpose printer!

This is a great printer for many reasons: Pros: It's very, very fast! The duplexing time can be very much reduced by shortening the time that it waits for the ink to dry (it still doesn't smear). It's VERY easy to use. If there's an error or something, it provides you with detailed, non-confusing directions to fix it. It does borderless, glossy photo prints beautifully! The software that comes with the printer is nice (and Mac-compatible). It is EXTREMEMLY easy to set this printer up over a network; the easiest I've ever seen! This is almost as fast as some laser printers I've used. The scanner/copier works quickly and gives you detailed control over the scanned image. Cons: This is bigger than it looks in the pictures. It's not the quietest printer I've seen, but it's reasonable. As with all printers, the ink is outrageously expensive.   Overall, this is a great printer that does what it's supposed to without a hitch! This has been much better than my old Epson. I haven't set up the fax functionality (I don't need it), so I can't speak to that part of the printer.

Great do-it-all printer.

I got this printer, the Canon MX850, as a birthday gift. It replaced an old printer that came free with my computer. This workhorse really does everything, and does it well. Some features that I love are automatic duplex printing (it will do double-sided all by itself, no more stopping to flip the sheets around) and a self-feed scanner (you can just give it a stack of papers to scan and it will feed them through, like an office copier does). Other than that, I mostly use it for day-to-day printing, and it does the job. One of the downsides is that it is rather massive. The box it comes in is enormous and heavy. But really, how often do you move a printer? I decided that it was worth it. Using the built-in controls to make simple copies is relatively straight-forward. I haven't used the fax capabilities yet, or done any printing from a memory card, so no opinion there. Overall, I'm very glad that I chose this printer. I think it was a good investment.
