worked wonderfully for 2 years...

3

Worked great for the first 2 years I owned it. But recently it has stopped working altogether. Performance I never had any problems during the first two years. It was easy to use. Then recently it began displaying "Error! The paper is jammed. Clear the paper and press OK"-- as soon as I turn it on. We made sure there was no paper jam (nothing at all is jamming it!)... but it continues to "think" it has a paper jam, keeps displaying the error message, and It won't print, or scan, or do anything at all. I am 100% sure there is nothing jamming it... but it continues to display that message. Copy Quality During the first two years that I owned this machine, I was very pleased with the quality of the prints. Ink/Paper Use The ink is expensive. The paper never gave me any problems during the first two years I owned the machine, but now that (the paper feed) is the issue that is making the entire machine not work. Ease of Use I gave this a 5, because it was very easy to use when it was working-- but not usable now (at all!). Durability Worked great for TWO YEARS, and now not at all.. I expected it to last longer than this. Design I like the design. You can scan documents easily and print copies with the simple push of one button. The paper feed is in the rear of the machine which is a little awkward. (the paper feeds into the rear of the machine and exits in the front of the machine).(Sort of like an old fashioned typewriter.)

Good for me

I replaced an HP printer with the Canon PIXMA Photo All-in-one printer. I like it a lot. It's super convenient to have a printer and scanner combo as I use both all the time. The scanner lid itself is a little flimsy, but just don't whip it open and you're good. I've been happy with it since I've had it - probably about a year. Using off-brand ink is a no-go though, so expect to pay for real ink. Only downside is that it's pretty bulky in size. It doesn't look great taking up 25% of my desk, but it's fine. Performance No complaints! Copy Quality Everything looks good on full-quality. When you're doing fast mode it gets a little sketchy at times. Ink/Paper Use Sometimes it tells me it's low on color ink even though I know it's not... Then it refuses to print altogether even if I choose grayscale printing. It's annoying. Ease of Use Pretty easy - turn it on, plug it in, go. Durability Scanner lid is a little flimsy in the hinges. Design It's a bit bulky, but looks sleek and nice.

Great value, does what I want

When our last printer stopped working I needed to find a decent printer and scanner combo for the family computer. This one was a decent price and got good reviews so I gave it a shot. So far it has consistently worked well and hasn't given us any problems. The print quality is pretty good and it's faster than I expected, it being an inkjet. The scanner works well also. It's easier to use than any printer I've had before. The little LCD screen at the bottom is nice and it's also nice to have the option to insert memory cards to print pictures directly from the card. One main problem I've noticed is that the color ink has run out a lot faster than I would expect. We have only had it for a few months and it is already running low. I'm not sure if someone's been getting crazy with printing full page color photos, but usually we only use it to print documents so I'm not sure what the deal is. Other than that the printer has been easy to use and hasn't given us any problems.

The Canon MP490 Printer is fantastic!

Before I got the Canon MP490 Printer, when I had to scan, print, and copy, I had to go to three different places. This printer has seriously changed my life! It prints quickly and easily, scans with the push of a button, and makes copies that print in one simple step. I got a ton of prints before having to change my ink, so it's a great value as well. I use my Canon MP490 Printer many times a week, and it always works efficiently, smoothly, and produces great quality work. I picked up the Canon MP490 after getting one for my sister - when I set it up for her, I realized just how awesome it was! I had had a regular inkjet printer before this, but I'm glad I traded it up for this model (which was actually a lot less expensive)! I hope it lasts for a long time, but even if it doesn't, I think I'll get another! This printer also has a little LCD screen so you can toggle between modes - everything is very intuitive. I highly recommend the Canon MP490 Printer to anyone in the market for a printer (or those who aren't! Get one and see the light!)

Canon mp 490 is not bad at all

Honestly, I can't say enough about this printer.  I Have always wanted a nice color printer, but prices were always out of my budget   . When I saw this one, I thought it would be a mediocre solution at best because of the great price... boy, was I wrong! Setup was a breeze. When I printed my first photos today, I couldn't believe my eyes. Breathtakingly  beautiful!  The paper tray feed which extends out from the back of the printer is relatively  jam free. Paper is fed from the rear out to the front. If you forget to  open the front,  it'll automatically open up when you print that to me is a pretty cool function.  You can also make B&W or Color photocopies without having to  turn on your computer. The  fold up color LCD screen makes pretty cool work of copies with the  menu. The menu can scroll through other sub menus for  options like print quality, paper type and many other variables. There are are 6 buttons and 1 multi function pad that makes it very versatile. The built in media card port  allows for faster instant printing as well. The Canon software is fairly easy to learn  and install, its quite a breeze. This printer has  a quiet mode. Which kills that irritating printer noise to quite an extent. Great buy

Great prints and fast enough for me!

I don't know too much about printers, but this one does what I want it to, quickly and with good enough quality.  I don't print pictures with it, so I don't expect photo quality images with it.  I love the fact that you can scan and print with it, something you get used to in the workplace (with those multi-function printers).  The ink use is fine.  I've had an old HP that used ink, even if it wasn't on (??!?!?!?) and that ink was an arm and a leg.  The Canon ink feels a bit better on the pocket for me.  The display is quite nice and overall the printer is easy to use.  Cons: It didn't come with a USB cable, not suprising, but have access to spare USB cables so that wasn't an issue for me.  Another thing is that it does not have a WiFi connection, not such a big deal to me, but would be nice so you can place it virtually anywhere in the home. If I had to choose again, I'd choose  a similar model that has WiFi.  It's just very convenient to be able to place this unit anywhere.

Great all in one printer!

This printer is a great buy and a good value. It prints very clear and good quality photos or documents, whichever you need. I had no problem hooking it up to the computer even though I am not computer savvy. It fired right up and prints like a champion. When I was looking for a printer to buy, I was considering price and quality and this one meets both! I tried printing a landscape picture and it was great. I am an avid couponer and print out loads of copies of coupons every day. This has been an easy and low maintenance helper in that endeavour. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a powerhouse printer with easy options. It is quiet and looks nice in my office. The size of it is good too, not too wide. My husband has alot of things to print for his job and it works well for his needs too. I have found that replacing the ink cartridges is very cost effective as well- and I always have a coupon for that!

Way better than any HP printer I've had

I love, love, love this printer! First off, it's *quiet*. Every printer before that would just clunk along when printing, but this one is nice and quiet. Secondly, it does absolutely everything I need it to do, and it does it well. It's fast, and consistently prints good quality. I'm especially impressed with the color copy, it's very true to the original colors. It's also very easy to install and will fit in comactly into any home office, as the trays all close up. In my house, we print pretty frequently, and this guy has held up for a very long time without any problems. I've also used a variety of paper qualities/dimensions with it, and all of them have been successful. The scanning function is admittably a little bit on the slow side, but it makes up for it with the quality of the scans. It's very convenient to be able to scan straight to PDF that emails from your Outlook account if needed. Setup is easy as well.

Canon MP490 great for the value

I got one of these printers on super sale a while back and mostly because the reviews for the print quality for Canon printers were pretty good.  Though the ink cartridges are expensive, I found that refilling your own ink is quicker than stopping by the store to get another one and almost 10 times cheaper.  It's really saved me a bunch of money to get this printer. Although its not the fastest one alive, I'm getting my prints much cheaper. Also, I feel as though I'm doing myself and the environment a favor by not simply purchasing new cartridges. The scan quality is moderately good and copies are actually pretty fast. If you're looking for a simple-as-can-be printer/scanner bundle this is it.  As a student, I don't have much more need other than papers and lecture notes and the occasional coupon, so this is mostly a printer for the home. Overall, I'm glad i have it and had it for over 2 years.

Canon MP 490 Printer

I have owned both a Hewlett Packard and now  Canon printer. The Canon MP is the best thing going for the price. It scans beautifully, prints sharp and clear and the copies are wonderful! I had absolutely no problems connecting as all you do is plug it in, hook the cable to the front of the tower and it does the rest! No CD to have to download, no instructions to try to decipher. I was amazed and so happy with the ease , the clarity and the price. I will never buy another brand.
