Does the job but not too well

2

Easily jammed and loads paper awkwardly. VERY LOUD. Connects easily but frequent printing issues. Ink is very expensive but that is always true. I received this printer free with a computer purchase. Performance Fast in draft mode which is mostly what I use. Color speed is decent too. Copy Quality Dropped colors easily. Several head strikes Ink/Paper Use Ink is expensive as always. Been milking my black cartridge for 2yrs on draft mode though! Ease of Use Plug and play. Couldn't be much easier for a printer. Durability Some parts seem flimsy but it's held up so far. Should last another 3-4 years. Design Pretty large. I do like the built in scanner but i'm sure this could be made much smaller. Very awkward paper loading tray makes it hard to tell if paper will feed correctly. Most of the time it does.

I am one of many people that received this AIO printer in a bundle with a computer purchase. At that time I thought it would be an acceptable printer to use inplace of my HP 952c printer, whose only fault was a broken paper guide lever that caused paper jams. But I have been proven wrong. But first the good. I like the software that allows you to scan in multiple documents and save them in a single pdf file. You can save docs as individual pages. You can enlarge or decrease the print size of your scanned doc. You can choose to print you docs in either black or color when scanning a color pic/doc. You can choose to print just from the black cartridge or just the color cartridge. You can set it up to  scan and attach to your email application (outlook).  The cover is hinged to allow you to scan thick docs and books easily, The scan surface is 8.5" x 11". It also prints photos. The photos are good quality.  It is very slow in responding to any printing jobs you send to it. It is very slow in scanning any thing you put on it.  It is very noisy, even on its night (?) setting. But the most irratating thing is it goes thru cartridges like nobody's business. We have had several printers of different makes over the years, HP, Lexmark, etc., but this one by far uses more cartridges iwith less usage than any other we have had. When we first purchased it I didn't use it as my main printer so It wasn't noticable. But when I switched out my HP and started using the MP160 it seemed I was constantly replacing one of the two cartridges, it seemed almost every 2 months. This is not acceptable, and I have started directing more printing to the old hp and less to the Cannon. I use it mainly for scanning docs into the computer, and lite printing. I will put my savings towards one good network printer. Maybe another HP or that Kodak printer with the really inexpensive cartridges I saw at the store last week. Update. I had to go to that Kodak printer. This printer was to expensive for my household to use. Performance It is not the worst printer I have used, It's very noisy and slow and it freezes alot when scanning. Copy Quality The copy quality is ok, acceptable for school work and home office work. But I don't get the "Is that the original?" questions I am use to getting from my now defunct HP printer. Ink/Paper Use I could not afford to continue using this printer with 3 school age children doing projects and homework daily. We were purchasing cartridges almost every 45 days. This was unacceptable because of the cost of the catridges. I could have bought a cheap new printer for the amount I was spending on the cartridges. Ease of Use This printer is very easy to use. The software manager is straight-forward and the buttons are easy to see and use. Durability This printer is still functional, although the scanner won't perform all the time. It freezes or hangs one day, but will work fine another day. We used it more for printing sand it didn't reall have any problems keeping up with the childrens school work demands. Design All the buttons are easy to see and use. The cartridges are easy to replace. The footprint is somewhat large so I couldn't put it in the printer cubby in my desk, but it is pleasing to look at.

Excellent Low-End AIO Machine

5

This is an affordable, but high quality AIO. It works excellent with both Vista and OS X! Easy to use, good error management and fast printing. Software is decent for Vista and it works really well with OS X's software. Although I have not used this feature, it has a PictBridge.

Terrific little printer/scanner and great price - recommended!

I have been very pleased with this little printer/scanner.  I had been wanting a scanner for some time, and the scanner on this little machine works very well.  The print quality is also very good.  I have not tried the copying function so far but I imagine it is equally reliable.  This machine is compactly sized, easy to use and costs very little.  I have only been using it a couple of weeks, but so far, I couldn't be more pleased!  I definitely recommend it.

This machine is junk.

I received this Canon MP160 All in one printer, scanner, copier in a computer package. It is cheaply made and doesn't work well. The paper doesn't stand up well enough to be pulled in when it's ready to print. Paper must be in just the right position or it puts out and error message that won't clear out. This printer does not work well with Vista. I hate it and went back to my good old HP Deskjet 952C.

Fast Printer

4

I love this printer, I feel like once it was set up it prints really fast, and I never feel like this printer takes a long time to print anything. I love the fact that you can also use it as a scanner and a copier. And I thought it was pretty easy to install all of the features. The only thing that isn't as desirable is that the ink is harder to find- and I like to get my ink cartridges refilled to save money but there aren't really places that refill canon cartridges since the company isn't a major printer company. It really does not take up that much space and is nice for our small computer desk. Plus it is so convenient having the three functions in one machine and is super easy to use. For the inexpensive price, it's such a great deal. I would recommend this to anyone who isn't very technically savvy for the installation is really easy and straight forward. I do really like this printer and think it's a great deal.

Does it all, but runs out of ink

3

This printer is nice in that it can do almost everything needed. It can print envelopes, black and white documents, and color photos. It can also scan documents or make black and white or color copies. However despite having a scanner it lacks any fax functionality so you'll have to e-mail any documents you scan or at the very least you will need to download some kind of fax software. The quality of the scans also isn't great, but it's good enough for most things. The main drawback to this printer is the ink. Color ink runs out ridiculously fast so I always have to make sure it's set on gray scale printing and the lowest quality print settings. These options don't always stay put in the driver so I have to check manually each time. The ink can get pretty pricy, but you'll be able to purchase generic ink that fits this model. It also prints a little slow compared to my laserjet. Currently I mainly use this to print envelopes which it does very well. It's also pretty light so it's a good portable copier when you need it. Other than that it's pretty average depending on what it costs.

Canon Printer a Great Space Saver

4

I got the Canon Pixma MP 160 All in One Printer three years ago as part of a bundle -- and it was actually free. Whatever the original purchase price, it would have been completely worth it. The printer is well-designed and easy to use. It is compact, and so a space-saver. It has a sort pf retro look to it, which works well with my 1950s desk. The flap in the back that supports the in-going paper is squat enough to keep out of the way. It opens in the front to emit printed sheets. The buttons are a little shallow, but I have not found this to be a great disadvantage. All the functions are easy-to-use. It works just like any other printer, but you can also scan and copy documents as well. It is a little bit of a pain to have to open up the printer in the control panel in order to scan, but this is the only downsize. Resolution of all materials is good. The only "gripe" I have is that the toner cartridges are not refillable. Otherwise a quality product.

a scanner with plus for a computer challenged person

4

I brought my canon pixma scanner which also includes a printer for plain printing and for photos.  I'm still learning about all its capabilities.  For a somewhat computer-challenged person, I've learned how to use the scanner to scan such things as plain copies and handmade greeting cards which I keep in an idea file as I create them.  I also use the scanner to create/print messages for handmade cards on plain and colored card stock.   Canon offers online support for it's products.  When I get time, I will explore photo printing as well.   Good dependable machine.

Canon's MP160 does everything that a small business would need.

5

When I needed a printer I went to a couple different stores looking for just the right printer for what I wanted to use it for. I had owned an HP that was nice but I wanted a scanner. I looked at a few different brands when I came accross the Canon MP160. Not only did I like the fact that it would copy and print, it scanned. When I have it combined with my PC it serves as a vital tool for my business. I take pictures of the work that I do and I sometimes I use an instant camera so, I have to take the prints after I have had the film developed and scan them to get them onto the computer. My Canon MP160 all-in-one allows me to peview the scan, make any change to it that I want to, make any color changes that I want to, and it will even do all that stuff for me. I get about 300 full print pages in black and the color gets about 140 pages of full print. This is what I would consider a good trade up from the printer that I had before. I couldn't be happier with the way that it has worked for me and continues to work for me.
