Canon EOS 50D is a great camera!

4

The Canon EOS 50D is a great camera. I upgraded to the Canon EOS 50D from the Canon EOS XTi. The clarity and functions are vastly superior. The only shortcoming I have with the camera is the ISO capability. Any ISO setting over ISO400 produces grain in the pictures. Out of the box and shooting in Auto, the pictures looked much clearer, color was spot on and the camera feels more comfortable in your hands, since it is a bit bigger than the XTi model. I did buy the camera battery grip for the Canon EOS 50D and was glad I did, it doubles the battery life and gives it a bit more body to work with. I hardly use the built in flash but it is good in a pinch. I've taken pictures of people close up with the flash firing and most of time they have looked perfectly fine. Shutter speed is amazing, especially for me since I sometimes photography weddings, and don't want to miss any moment. I rented the Canon 17-55mm F/2.8 lens for this camera and they both worked together like a dream. The clarity, bokeh, and wide angle produced beautiful images. Overall, I would recommend the camera if you have noise reduction software at your disposal.

I adore my 50D

5

I adore my Canon 50D.  It is my little bit of heaven.  My favorite possession.  It is the tool with which I can take beautiful pictures of my babies and husband.  My wonderful toy.  I love all the features, and the level of control I have when I have it in manual mode (which is all the time).  The multiple focal points are great, and allows me more control when I am doing a photoshoot with my very wiggly children.  The camera fits nicely in my hands, and I do not find it to be too heavy, as some higher end models are.  The lens that this camera comes with is pretty good for a kit lens, if you nail your focal point you can get some very sharp pictures with it.  I find the button placement/wheels very convenient for my fingers, and are easy to use.  The picture quality with this camera is amazing-the colors are rich, and teh focus is good.  With two small children, the fast shutter speed and lack of shutter lag is essential to catching all those little moments and features.  I don't use the flash much, but when I do, it produces good results.  I am very impressed with how high the ISO can be raised, and personally, if the picture is properly exposed, I do not find the higher ISOs to produce much noise.  I love this camera, and it was worth every single penny.

Canon- EOS 50D with 28-135mm lens DIgital Camera

My mom has the Canon- EOS 50D with 28-135mm lens Digital Camera. She absolutely loves it. You can take a picture from a far distance and when you zoom in on the picture is still has great quality. She uses it for takeing pictures of all her grandkids. The camera definetely captures the moments with the best quality. For her it is pretty high tech. She doesn't really know how to use all the buttons. So for her lack of knowledge the pictures still turn out excellent. The flash is great! Images are amazing. It catches the images you want right in time. I would suggest reading the instructions and really learning how to use it for the best quality. I would recommend this to any one. Keep it away from the children. They all seem for intrested in it. I think it is great for beginner photographers and for the more advanced ones as well. We truely enjoy the out come of the Canon- EOS 50D Digital Camera.

The Canon 50D is a great prosumer DSLR

4

The Canon 50D is an excellent prosumer DSLR. It has more features than the Rebel line and is constructed of magnesium alloy. It feels sturdy and rugged in your hand without being too heavy. Something I dislike about the Rebel series is the plastic construction. The 50D body has good ergonomics that have been improved in the 7D. The 28-135mm kit lens is excellent for beginners and those looking to improve their picture taking skills. It's a decent all around lens. Unfortunately, it has flaws that makes it unsuitable for those looking for the best image quality. I am reviewing the 50D in conjunction with the 28-135mm lens. I might have received a faulty copy, but the noise level on the 50D is a little bit disappointing. Noise becomes noticeable in the shadows at anything higher than 100iso. Noise control could be better in a camera of this caliber. The 28-135mm lens is clear at certain apertures and focal lengths. You'll occasionally get a very crisp image. However, the lack of consistency makes this lens not the ideal choice for more experienced users. Sharpness at the edges of images is decent, but sometimes edge blurring is noticeable. Chromatic abberation is also a problem. In short, at this point in time, you might be better off getting a Rebel with an L lens, rather than a midrange dslr body with a mediocre lens. Of course, you'll get great performance if you pair this camera with an L lens like the Canon 24-70mm L. This dslr is great to practice with. If you're looking for the best crop sensor camera, look at the Canon 7D.

Great Camera

I recently upgraded from my Rebel to the Canon 50d. The 50d is a great camera. I have used this camera to shoot multiple weddings and the results are fantastic! The combo with the lens kit is a great start the 28mm feels wider, and is a great go to lens for normal range and portrait photography. The camera is user friendly with many nice auto features. The camera defientely has a professional level look and feel. I've use this lens combo kit to shoot weddings, maternity portraits, baby portraits, kid partys and a few landscape shots. The camera does shot in RAW format. But beware, the files are huge and take up alot of space on your memory cards as well as your computer memory. The canon software it comes with is good for mass conversion to jpeg. However, I Prefer using a high level product such as photoshop. The high ISO levels are great, but they can be grainy which is too be expected.

The Canon 50D is a vast improvement on previous models

5

My husband and I have our own wedding photography business and our main shooting camera is the Canon 50D. We decided to go with the 50D after enjoying our 30D so much, which we still use on jobs today as a second shooter. The minor adjustments between the two cameras really do make a world of difference. It is very easy to change your settings with the 50D. Also, it goes up to a higher shutter speed in dark conditions. Granted, the higher ISO does give off a lot of grain, but most of the time, my clients are just happy to have a shot and they convert to black and whites wonderfully. The Canon system in general is very user friendly and offers great quality and versatility. Whether you are a novice or expert, a hobbyist or a professional, there are many lenses to choose from to cover every job or event. The 28-135mm lens is our go-to-guy for weddings, portraits, or whatever else we need. The lens is incredibly crisp no matter how close or far from your subject, and the zoom is fantastic. It lets you get right up in the action without getting in everyone's way and still delivers beautiful shots. I would recommend the 50D to anyone considering a camera.

Canon 50D is a great camera

5

I have always owned Canon SLR's, from my first film SLR, then I upgraded to a digital SLR begginers camera and when that got stolen I upgraded again to the 50D.  It is a great, sturdy camera that takes great pictures.  The body is much heavier than the first SLR I had and feels much more substantial.  This camera is able to take great, clear pictures at higher ISO settings, allowing me to get great pictures even in low light conditions.  You can purchase any number of lenses, flashes and other accesories to make it an even better camera.  It has a super fast shutter which allows me to capture pictures of my fast moving kids.  I'll snap dozens of pictures of one situation, and ensure that I get at least one good picture.  The Canon 50D takes great pictures when I am in a hurry and use the automatic settings and also when I have a bit more time and patience to use the manual settings.  I love this camera!

Great Camera!

This is a great DSLR camera.  Has a very nice output.  Easy to use.  Good for someone who has some experience with DSLR's as it's not an entry level camera.  It does have a lot of noise when you use a high ISO, which can be corrected with noiseware, but kind of annoying.

Super-Fast Camera

This camera was upgrade for my husband from the Rebel XS by Canon. It is a really great camera, very fast and takes beautiful pictures. We use it everywhere! From family gatherings, to school functions, and just random shots of our two daughters. I would recommend this camera to just about everyone as a more advanced photography tool. It is pricey, but worth the money in the end!

Great Camera

I recently upgraded to this camera from a Rebel XT. Worth the extra money if you are looking to take your photography to the next level. Kit lens is okay, but I prefer a lower f-stop so I upgraded to a different lens.
