The Canon Rebel XT digital SLR is great for those who are used to a 35mm SLR or anyone who just wants to point and shoot high quality photos!

The body itself is relatively lightweight. The ability to change lenses is a big plus and depending on the size of lens will add some more weight. I use the Canon 75 - 300mm lens with built-in Image Stabilization. It can also be focused auto or manually. The battery life is sufficient, image save speed is good, and depending on the size CF card, it will store hundreds of shots at full resolution. I use a 4 GB card and it holds over 1000 shots. I just love my Canon Rebel XT.  It is easy to use, the quality of the photos are remarkable. My first day with my Canon I took over 500 photos in 20 minutes.  This camera takes awesome action shots, you can actually see the water flying when taking pics of the kids in the pool.  Or Running shots as they dart across the yard.  You will never miss another photo waiting for your camera to be ready. 

About 3 years ago my husband bought me the digital rebel.  I fell in love with it immediately upon use.  I had a film slr rebel in the closet where it has sat most of the past 5 years.  I think I had broken out for about 5 occassions during that time but did not use it alot because of the cost of developing, instead I just used my little digital olympus that I could slip into my pocket easily and download to the computer all the shots so I didn't have to worry about getting bad shots.  I used my new rebel and immediately fell in love with the speed.  I even went so far as to buy a tri-pod,...

The Canon-EOS Rebel XT is one of the greatest items my hubby has ever bought.. I have tried many digital cameras and thought I found my favorite until this one came along.. Now I find myself using it for almost everything. I take it to my rescue and use it to take pics of my rescues so they can be posted online.  I love the clarity and ease of being able to take the pics and see what I have taken. I can delete almost at the same time.. The Memory card holds several pics at one time, making it so easy to just keep taking pics and not worrying about running out of space on the card. I was raised by a photographer.  My father was in the business for many, many years.  It wasn't until I had my children that I became truly interested in photography.  My father always shot with Nikon, but I find Canon easier to use.  I had several film SLR cameras but decided to bite the bullet and get a digital.  I also worked for Kodak for 5 years.  I love the camera although the kit lens (18-55mm) leaves much to be desired.  My advice, buy the body and invest in a better lens.  After all your pictures are more dependent on the glass they are shot with. 

Two weeks after purchasing...

I am a serious amateur photographer. I bought my first dslr to photograph basketball games because slr's have little or no shutter lag and are suitable for action photos. I found that the kit lens wasn't a "bad" lens, but wasn't up to the task of indoor, low light photography and soon replaced it with a medium quality Canon ESF17x85 lens which cost $475.00.

With the 17x85 lens I was able to take acceptable photos of indoor sports as long as I used a flash and was close enough. The kit lens is actually faster than the 17X85 ( f 3.5 vs f 4.5 ) so I can only attribute the difference to the quality...
