Candlelight Yoga
with Sara Ivanhoe

I wanted to get a yoga workout DVD, but I had no idea which one to get. Sometimes it is a hit or miss because of the volume of yoga workout DVDs on the market today. I was watching FIT TV channel one day and caught a yoga routine by Sara Ivanhoe. She is very easy to follow and helps you to relax during the poses. I decided to do a search on her yoga workout DVDs and ended up purchasing the Candlelight Yoga.

Sara Ivanhoe is a certified yoga instructor. She describes her fitness philosophy as "Yoga is like a marathon, not a sprint; slow and safe persistence gives you the best results. The main thing is to have fun and keep your sense of humor. Enjoy and you're more likely to stick to it."

Sara Ivanhoe's focus is on breathing, flexibility, looseness and relaxation, not achieving the perfect pose. The DVD begins with a very gentle warm-up stretch and it ends with plain relaxation. The set is beautiful with LOTS of glowing candles on the floor. Sara Ivanhoe guides you through a series of relaxing poses, while helping you to keep the focus on the breath. There is quiet instrumental music with some soothing nature sounds. All you need is your yoga mat and bare feet. I prefer the Hugger Mugger Solace Yoga Mat.

I've been doing yoga for over a year now. The Candlelight Yoga is the perfect yoga workout for me because it is gentle and not overpowering. The workout is very relaxing. Sara Ivanhoe has a soothing voice and she doesn't talk too much. You have enough time to do the poses and relax while listening to the music. The music on the DVD is very relaxing and doesn't distract you from the yoga workout. The DVD also includes an extra workout to energize you that last about 15-minutes long. I do the candlelight yoga workout every other day, which is about 40-minutes long. The other days I try to do the energizing workout.

I would recommend the Candlelight Yoga to anyone new to yoga or searching for a calming yoga routine. I feel that yoga is less about exercising, and more about centering yourself and your breathing, while stretching and relaxing your muscles. I give it 5 Stars!

I just love her philosophy and attitude about Yoga. No, I haven't gotten the "On the Ball Yoga" DVD yet. That sounds like FUN. I'll have to look into that DVD and get me a ball. Thank you for reading and sending me a comment! ;-) ~Krista Lynn

I love Sara Ivanhoe's Yoga workouts. I have this DVD as well. Have you bought her "On The Ball Yoga" DVD? I hear that is a real good workout too. Have a great week!

I was wondering if you had this workout DVD. I remember you telling me that you have TONS of workout DVD's awhile back. It really relaxes me especially when my foot is hurting. I sometimes do this workout an hour before I go to bed to help me wined down. Thank you for reading and sending me a comment! Have a great night! ~Krista Lynn

I have this DVD and when I went to do it, I was five minutes into it and my cat unplugged the DVD player and I went nuts and never did it again. Not because of that just because I have so many DVDs that I forgot to try it again. It seemed really relaxing before I had a tantrum. lol.

I like her philosophy! Great review:)

Here's a toast to the New Year and that you will have much success with your workout routines this year. I walked 4 miles yesterday and did 45 mins. of circuit training with 200 or 25 ab crunches! I love the abs machine! Hey, we're both off to a good start! ~Gigi

"New to yoga" would be me! I will keep this one in mind. Thanks for the review!

Fardreamer wrote on Jan 6, 2009 at 9:38AM

Good review! I agree, yoga isn't so much about the physical exertion (or lack thereof) but rather of the balance between the mind and body. Happy New Year!

Sounds like a great DVD--it's nice to have the choice in workouts and I know what you mean about instructors that talk too much or ones that have distracting music.
