When we registered for our wedding at Williams-Sonoma, we put all of the available Calphalon One Nonstick cookware on our list individually. We actually got almost all of what we asked for, but since the set is so much cheaper, we returned all of the individuals and just got this 16 pc set. I couldn't be more thrilled with it.
This cookware is so great because it is both infused-anodized and nonstick, so I get the best of both worlds. It cooks evenly, because it spreads the heat evenly throughout the entire surface, not just the part touching the burner. Also, I have not ever had to scrape food off of this cookware. Everything just slides right off. This makes them so so so easy to clean. Even sauces and grease wash off easily with soap and hot water. I don't really have to soak them either. I usually just wait until they aren't hot anymore before washing. Additionally, unlike stainless steel cookware, you don't have to use oil or cooking spray to prevent sticking or burning.
None of my pots or pans are scratched yet and we are not extremely cautious with them. As long as you use non-metal utensils, the surface won't scratch and they will last forever. The longer handles stay cool, so I don't need a potholder to move them or hold them in place. The smaller handles do get pretty hot, so you will need to use a pot holder with them. I didn't think I would actually use all of these different pots and pans, but I really do. It is nice to have the correct size cookware for every recipe.
Another great benefit is that every single piece in this set is oven, fridge and freezer safe. This is a great feature when I make a large casserole for the freezer. Since all of the pieces except the skillets come with lids, you don't have to worry about freezer-burn.
The only downside of this cookware that I can imagine is that the pieces are fairly heavy. Especially when cooking sauces or boiling water, they can be difficult to move around the kitchen.
The 16 pc set includes the following pieces...
-- 8", 10", 12" fry pans
-- 3-qt, 5-qt saute pans with lids
-- 2.5-qt, 3.5-qt saucepans with lids
-- 7-qt chef's casserole pan with lid
-- 8-qt stockpot with pasta insert and lid
Calphalon usually also has various gift with purchases. I received a free 6-qt deep braiser and 6.5-qt dutch oven. Calphalon also makes additional Nonstick pieces available open-stock. We have the egg pan, griddle and roaster.
I am very happy with this Calphalon cookware. I feel that Calphalon makes high-quality products which are worth the high price you pay for them. The 16 pc set is sold at Williams-Sonoma for $950. The retail equivalent of buying these items open stock is $1,565. They also sell an 8 pc set ($500) and a 12 pc set ($680). In addition, Macy's sells these items open stock and in an 8 pc set ($500) and a 10 pc set ($600). I highly recommend this cookware for anyone who anticipates cooking over time...from beginners to seasoned professionals.
