Calorie King: Weight Loss Tools —
I have been a member of the online program, Calorie King, for over 5 years now. I lost 42 lbs. using the program and stuck around for maintenance and stuck around even longer to rid myself of the few pounds that were creeping back on. I hate to even use the word "diet" because it truly is a life-style change. They have the largest database of foods that you'll find anywhere. Everything from store-bought to restaurants and fast food joints. They have a food diary that you can put in everything you eat for the day and it tallies your calories, fat, carbs...whatever you choose for it to track and lets you know what you still have left for the day. There is also an exercise diary that will track how many calories you burn depending on the activity. There are good graphs and charts to track your progress as well. It is full of great articles, a recipe section and there is a "university" that you can go through that has a lot of nutrition and exercise info. I have to say, though, that the best thing to me is the community. There are so many great people on this site for support and a good kick in the keister when needed. They have a journal section that they recently added a comments section to so you can keep up with your new friends on a daily basis. A ton of people use this feature. More so than on any other site I've been to. I've actually met quite a few people in person from this site. People that will be life-long friends. Losing weight is such a personal and emotional thing that having such a wonderful support system makes all the difference in the world. As with any site, you'll get the technical bug every now and again, but it's usually due to maintenance or a change to a feature. Not anything worth not joining for. Probably the biggest problem has been their customer service. It's sometimes difficult to get a question answered. But there are so many members who've been there for awhile that it's usually one of them that can answer for you. The price has gone up from past years (once upon a time it was free!). It is now $50 for a one year membership. Still wayyyy lower than you'll find anywhere else. Numerous times over the years I've pondered whether to renew when my membership ends, but I always do. There's no better way to hold yourself accountable than the diaries and the people would be incredibly hard to leave.
