California Baby Natural Bug Blend —

A few weeks ago, my family attended a church picnic. Naturally we put on a nice, low-DEET formula of OFF on nearly everyone. I'm allergic to DEET, so I've just learned to deal with bugs. However, our nearly 3-year old son started to vomit and we knew we were in trouble. I

n the era of West Nile, I was terrified. How do we protect our children from bugs without having to resort to OFF or the like? Avon was an option, but I have had poor experiences with the greasy Skin-So-Soft.

Doing a quick search on the internet, we found California Baby. All natural products? Also available in our local stores? AMAZING!

Pros:

1) All-Natural: When you use it, you can smell exactly what is in it. There's nothing chemically made in it! It's made with just Citronella, lemongrass and cedar essential oils.

2) It really works: I'm not kidding. Since using California Baby Bug Spray, we're had NO problem at all with bugs. Okay, we have a bug problem in our area but not on us. I've even found it to work with flies.

3) Get it anywhere: It's also available at your local Wild Oats store. Although be sure to call first - Target also carries the California Baby brand but does not stock Bug Spray.

4) Safe for my babies: My son has yet to have an episode since using this Bug Spray. I can use it without incident too; this is my first summer that I've lived through without many bug bites. Why didn't we get this earlier in the season?! *NOTE: NEVER use on a baby under 6 months without a doctor's approval

Cons:

1) Somewhat greasy: It feels nice, but it still leaves a bit of a greasy feel. We haven't seen any problems with using it on our clothes though.

2) Pricey: On the price scale, it's up there. At $11 for a 6.5 ounce bottle, it's a pretty pricey investment. However, we haven't even made a dent in the volume and we've been using it for about 3 weeks.

3) Smell adjustment: We're so used to smelling OFF that it took about a week's use to get used to the natural smell. That's not bad, but it does take some adjustment.

4) Not always in stock in local stores: One of the oils is imported and the only way to order was online.

SUMMARY

If you have the money and are concerned about DEET, this is a great investment. We were pushed to this by allergies, but it's great for anyone. They also have other natural products for those interested.

I use only all natural products on my son, so thanks for letting me know how this works.

Interesting--glad you got some good results with this one. So sorry to hear about how rough your "vacation" was last summer and hope this summer has been much improved.

I am very concerned about DEET and this sounds great. I will have to see if I can find it.
