Cabela's - Club Visa Card — 

My husband has a Cabelas Club Visa and we have had nothing but problems with it. First, they decided that they were going to decrease his credit limit without telling him. When we called about it they said it had to do with a debt collection on his credit report. We checked it out and there was no such thing and my husband had a credit score of 727. The next thing they did was increase his intrest rate to 27%. Finally, we just recieved a notice saying that they closed his account. They don't have any apparent reason as my husband has made all payments on time and continues to have a good credit score. Also, everytime I called I recieved bad customer service. They were unwilling to explain anything to me and were very rude.

We're disappointed with Cabelas. We used to shop their original store in Sidney Nebraska when it was a small brick building. My wife and I have had their credit card for probably 15 years (or as long as they have offered them). Out of the blue, Cabelas cancelled our card. By the way, Calelas Visa owed us a small amount of money because of a recent overpayment we had made. We have never (and I mean zero times) have had a late payment or other problem with the card. My wife called and asked if we could cancel the card ourselves to protect our credit. As you say, she recieved very poor customer service and was told everything was already done, the card was cancelled and there was nothing we could do. She was also told that all of the credit card companies will be doing the same thing - raising rates and cancelling cards. You would think that Cabelas would weigh in the fact that we are loyal 20 year customers of their store. FYI, in case you don't know - Cabelas owns its own credit card business so it's not as if a third party is cutting off the credit line. This is Cabelas itself cancelling their own customers credit cards. If this is how financially worried they are, we better all take heed. The iorny is I had just purchased an expensive item with cash from Cabelas. I could have saved $30 from an e-bay store but out of some misplaced loyalty, I went with Cabelas. From now on I'll use their expensive catalogs to look for items and then shop elsewhere for the best price.
