This past summer, I purchased a small HDTV for my enclosed back porch. The HDTV has an analog (or standard cable ready) tuner, component (RGB) video, standard A/V connections as well as a built DVD player.
The problem. Select an HD signal to send to that television. The television has no HDMI input, and just as well. The distance from the living room DirecTV receiver and TiVo Series 3 DVR are too far to be practicable or affordable.
The solution. I purchased two RGB baluns with analog audio that distribute the signal point to point via standard CAT-5E data wire along with this Impact Acoustics Component Signal switcher. Using secondary audio outputs (primary audio feeds home theatre system) from both the DirecTV H20 Receiver and the TiVo Series 3 DVR as well as their RGB outputs, I can now distribute true 1080i RGB signals from the living room to the back porch. This simple yet effective switcher has three inputs and one output. The remote is quite small and possilby easy to misplace under a coffee table book or magazine. Operation couldn't be simpler. Press 1, 2, or 3 on the remote (or front panel) to determine which signal you want to distribute.
