In our area (suburb to rural area just north of Baton Rouge, LA) our TV Cable Provider is Cox Communications, formerly Cox Cable.

We have Basic "Extended" Cable.  I cannot fathom WHY not just call it BASIC since you cannot get just BASIC anymore anyway.  We have No Movie Channels as we cannot afford them.

Our televisions are 10yrs old or older by decades.  Cable Ready, but NOT Digital or High Definition by any means.

Our Cable TV Service has been reliable for the most part.  With only having to CALL for SERVICE maybe twice in ten years; and only outages caused by severe tropical storms, hurricanes or serious damage to a line by auto accident or some other unavoidable act.

My InLaws, on the other hand, have Digital Cable with Boxes on every TV.  They have frequently (3 or more times per year) had to call for Cable Troubles, usually caused by Box Outages.  And they have also had frequent episodes of not having phone service because they have the entire Cox Package of Cable TV, Phone & Internet.

We kept our original Phone & Internet providers and don't have near the outages our relatives have just 1/2 mile up our street.

I CAN say that On Site Service is usually provided within 24 to 48 hrs of calling about the outage.

We don't have TVs that accommodate all the new Cable TV Features, so I cannot comment on those details.

And Cable TV Service Fees Increase every two years for sure.  Our Cable Bills for BASIC EXTENDED have increased from $32mo. to almost $50mo from May 1998 to April 2008.  That's a 64% Increase in just under 10yrs.

Agree; Cox is pricey. Had another provider years ago [Phoenix area] who was much better priced and had better customer service; unfortunately, they sold out to Cox. That gave Cox the monopoly in this area for Cable TV. To keep costs about the same, had to dump the movie tier and music channels and just keep basic/expanded. Otherwise, bill would have jumped 38% in 2006. Then in October of that year, they sent a letter saying "since we've provided such exemplary service, we are raising our rates". Of course, they've raised it again since then. Phoenix metro area needs someone to provide some serious competition.
