I consider myself a smoker who does not smoke. Chantix helped me quit this last time, and I've not had a cigarette in nearly two months.

I liked that the medacine made me not want to smoke.  I'd tried some of the other drugs, Wellibutrin, to quit smoking.  While it "took the edge off" it never made me want to stop smoking.

Chantix also has a darker side.  In addition to the upset stomach I would get if I forgot to eat when I took it, It made me terribly depressed, irritable and mean.  I never had suicidial thoughts but I did have runaway fantasies about how my and my families life would be better if I just left.

It should be used with caution especially by anyone who suffers from occasional depression.

Have you sought help for the depression? It'ust from the Chantix, but still, might be helpful to try to something to curb the depression. Last thing you want is to be miserable and start up again. You are doing great!! Trust me I know depression and was a bad smoker. The Chantix did increase the thoughts, but I got through it by talking honeslty to my PCP and husband. Today I am happier and fell physically better than ever. Don't give up! Good luck to you.
