I was extremely nervous about this product and about quitting in general. I really did not want to do it.  I just knew I had to and I did not want to wait for a doctor to tell me, I was going to die.  The directions tell you that you are allowed to smoke for 7 days which made me relieved.  I did not want to quit cold turkey.  So,  I began the first month of 3 months  prescriptions of  pills.  I had no side effects at all.  By the middle of the week, I noticed that I was not getting the same satisfaction from the cigarettes that I normally got. By the end of the week, I was getting nothing from them. I would puff hard and inhale deeply, and it was like smoking air. It was frustrating because I was going through the motions, and getting nothing. The idea behind the medication is to block the nicotine receptors in the brain and it was doing exactly that !!!  My quit date was on a Friday.  My husband was quitting cold turkey as well.  He ran out of cigarettes on Thursday. I  was smoking my morning cigarettes with NO satisfaction at all and getting very frustrated so I said, what the heck and threw them all away....a day earlier than I had to. I got rid of the lighters, the ashtrays and the cigarettes on that day. To this day, 15 weeks later, I am smoke free. I only used the one month of pills.  The package suggests for you to continue the entire treatment for 3 months.  I did not feel the need.  Others may need to.  I recommend to play it by ear. Plan on the 3 months, but don't fill the entire prescription at the first time.  Walgreen's pharmacy is the place to go.  Since insurance doesn't cover this drug,   Walgreen's is the least expensive.  It is $109.  Be careful because other pharmacies are as much as $140.  First impression people say that this is too much money, but how much money do we spend over time on our cigarettes, and in 3 months, we are done for good.

As far as how easy quitting was. ..when I got a craving all I did was count to ten and the craving went away. I noticed that when I ate bigger meals, my cravings lasted a bit longer.  I did find I had to do something with my hands so I did start reading for the first time in my life.  I am reading best sellers, mysteries, romance, true crime, and I LOVE IT....and it took for me to quit smoking to find this wonderful past time.  I couid  not be happier.  Now, 15 weeks later, I don't miss it at all !!

Hi NY Goddess, I am so glad to hear you stop...Kudos to you. I read yours posting and laughed, I to was getting nauseous then read the instructions and said eat first lol. This is my second week of chantix and still smoke but I smoke maybe 5-6 cigs a day compaired to pack-pack1/2 per day. I think more than anything its the habit of smoking in the car lol....keep up the no smoking ;o)

Hi there. I recently quit smoking completely for 3 weeks now after 16 years, let alone my employers smoke in the office where I work and I live with smokers. I took Chantix for 6-7 weeks and quit smoking completely. At first, I felt nauseous when taking the pill, but, that was because I took the pill on an empty stomach. Once I had some food then took the pill I never expereinced the side effect ever again. I don't know if you ate before taking the pill or not, but, alot of people on here or in general didn't eat before they took the pills and therefore, it caused them to have the effects. It was in the instructions all the while. Oh. Let me add. I would normally smoke a pack of cigs in 2 days. I considered myself a crack head smoker because I smoked like a crack head needed another hit. I wouldn't smoke the whole cigarette just enough to satisfy my attack that came ever 10 minutes or so. During my duration on this program, I continued smoke everytime I had the urge. But, I smoke less and less each time. I gradually became smoke free. Remember, there is no nicotine in Chantix. It doesn't say you can't smoke, they just rather you didn't. But, this has worked for me and after 7 weeks, I am smoke free.

I've been considering this option to help me quit. I don't see how the patches can work. How can you get off nicotine, by putting nicotine in your body. Chantix blocks the nicotine receptors in the brain. Thanks, I'm going to look for other reviews on this product. Some people may think it's expensive, but so are cigarettes and so is lung cancer. Good luck and congratulations. Now, take the money you've saved and indulge!!!
