Short and sweet:  I've smoked a pack to a pack and a half a day for 12 years.  I've made several lame attempts to quit in the past.  One quit was for four months using the nicotine patch....this was a tough four months primarily because I was having to use the "will power method" and still had nicotine in my system.  I've been smoke free now for 27 days and while it's still early yet, I can never imagine picking up another cigarette.  I believe you have to be ready to quit smoking on the Chantix, but it lessons the "wanting to jump out of my skin" feeling or the "I'm so mad at the world I could pop" feeling.  I still have an "empty" feeling (or craving) from time to time (these have lessoned incredibly), but they are so much more managable with Chantix that they are almost nonexistent.  I am no longer embarrassed by the smell of cigarettes on my person, my health thanks me, I can breathe (most important), and life in general is so much better without an addiction that does absolutely nothing for me!   I also found Allen Carr's "Easy Way to Stop Smoking" most beneficial.  I read this while starting my first week on Chantix.  For me, cold turkey or the will power method is just unnecessary torture!   I have not experienced any crazy side effects. I have noticed that I tend to get a little bit of nausea after taking a pill, but find that problem only when I didn't eat enough.  I have vivid dreams too, which is listed as a side effect but I enjoy those!  Everyone has something to say about the cost.....I spend less on the Chantix than I did on my addiction.  Call around to different pharmacies in your area to see who is the cheapest!  I could not be more pleased with Chantix, hence my review.

In response to AmyA's comment from Jul 8, 2008 at 4:59AM:

I've not heard of Chantix ever going off the market, but it's possible. I'm not big on taking prescription medications, but from what I know, they all seem to have scary side effects. Drug companies have to list all potential side effects as a disclaimer no matter how little risk that particular side effect may be. I'm sure Chantix, as with many other prescriptions, would not mix well with other medications, existing health issues or mental disorders. I would suggest your mother trying to read Allen Carr's Easy Way to Quit Smoking. That really helped me too. Sneaking one here and there would be plain toture for me. hahaha....

I thoght they took this off the market? Did they bring it back? I know my mom was on Chantix...It did work, but the side effects scared me! She was on other medications and the mix was not good. She sneaks one here and there, but for the most part has quit. :)
