I was so afraid that I wouldn't be able to quit, but the cost of smoking was going up and I figured there were plenty of things I'd rather do with the $$. Since my husband was also going to quit, I felt like I finally had the support I'd missed all the other times I'd tried to quit and failed...
My health insurance paid for Chantix. I had to go get the prescription from my doctor first, though. It worked very well for me. I started off with .5mg twice a day for 21 days. Then I went to 1mg twice a day--I had a 30 day supply with 1 refill, but I only took it for about 3 weeks. The only side effect I had was sleeplessness, and I didn't like that so I quit taking it. No problem--I had no desire to smoke anymore. I have been smoke free for a year now, and I had smoked for 39 years (since I was 16.) Occasionally I will think to myself--boy, if I still smoked I'd have a cigarette right now. But then I think--well, I'm not a smoker, so that's not an option. Then I forget about it and go on with life. My husband used the patch, and it worked just fine for him.
