Update: It's 6 months later and I'm still not smoking. Some days it crosses my mind, and then it's gone. The beginning was hard but keep taking it one day at a time, and it will get easier- I promise!
I started Chantix 10 days ago, and I couldn't be happier. I've been reading blogs online, to see if I could relate to anyone else's experiences, and I'm a bit put-off by the negative comments. Chantix is a miracle. It makes cigarettes taste so bad, that you won't want them. Your cravings become less and less. However, you do have to want to stop. The habit of having a cig in the morning, or on a break, or after lunch is hard to replace. I certainly don't want to replace those habits with food, so it is still a battle. That's been the hardest part for me; finding something to replace the habits. I can talk to someone who is smoking and not want one, but I need something to keep my hands busy. I'm sure after a month, I won't have the need to smoke, but I really believe that it's important to finish the 12 week cycle. As far as the cost, how much does it cost to buy cigarettes? After a week you're not smoking so use the money for Chantix, and after 12 weeks, you won't have to spend any money, and you'll have gained so much. My side effects have been minor. I had a slight headache the first week, but no naseau. It's important to eat before taking it, and drinking the full 8 ounces of water. This morning after starting the 1mg pills 2 days ago, my naseau was the worst it's ever been. It was still tolerable, and I just keep thinking of how much worse it is to quit while taking or using anything else. This is nothing! I do have crazy, vivid dreams but they are just realistic, and not nightmares. I am a little tired, but it's worth it, to finally be free of this horrible addiction.
