I started smoking when I was 11 years old, yeah, I know, so young. Long story there, but anyway, I enjoyed smoking. It helped to relax me, it was my crunch to lean on during a argument or heavy discussion on topics I didn't want to talk about. For over 8 years I continued to smoke, but it start to become not worth it, Cigarettes were going up, I was breathing heavier and I was now older and starting to think of starting a family...I tried a couple of times to stop, but couldn't do it. Another year later, I did quit....Sadly, only to start back up again 9 months later. With each pregnancy, I felt guilty and tried and tried. NO, success at all. I tried everything except hypnois, which one of our best friends did do the hypnois and it worked for 5 years and he started up again. 45 years later, was still puffing away, when I was diagnoised with Breast Cancer. I begged the doctor's to help me quit, but they wouldn't help me as they stated my body was going through to much to add withdrawal and more depression, so it continued. Now 2 years later, I was ready to have reconstructive surgery and was told I have to be nicotine free for 3 months before they would do the surgery!!! Finally, I was going to get some help, I went Doc's and he prescribed Chantix..I was scared of side effects, that I had heard from many people who knew people that had taken it or that they themselve had taken it. But I started them, signed up for the support they help you with online, enrolled in the check up calls everyday, They call you and you report if you've smoked or not. I did everything to the book. And it came to my quit date. Not a problem, I was ready, no cravings, no withdrawals, no jitters, nothing..smooth sailing. I took the Chantix for 2 months and didn't feel I need them anymore. I had several of them left, and talked to doc about my husband and we did as he told us with my chantix and he started them. He was only able to take them for 1 month. He did start to have one of the side effects.. He became very irritable and surley, this is a side effect. We talked about it and he stopped them, but enough of them were in his system, to help him quit. To this date, we are both still quit and no regrets..We do not miss smoking, we have no cravings, and we feel great.
As some people have side effects, some do not. Your Doctor, should monitor you every month while you are taking this drug. But I could not have done it without the help of this great little pill. Thank you, Chantix
