I had been looking for a pill to help me stop smoking for ages. I had heard bad things about another pill (Wellbutrin), but my doctor suggested I try Chantix, as he said it had a high success rate. Although it is expensive and not covered by my insurance, it costs no more than the patch, which broke me out, and the gum, which burned my tongue. I was fortunate to get a very good price at my local pharmacy, and I scraped up my pennies and took the plunge. The recommendation to continue smoking for a few days with this product was an added bonus. I took Chantix for 6 weeks, rather than the recommended 90 days, because I was suffering from severe loss of sleep. A friend told me she got a sleeping pill from her doctor....wish I'd have thought of that. However, I did stop smoking after taking the medication for 6 weeks, and feel I owe most of my success to Chantix. After a few days, I completely lost the physical craving to smoke. Now when I feel the urge to smoke, I remind myself how much a pack of cigarettes costs, and the craving goes away. I have recommended Chantix to probably a dozen friends and family members, and only one of them tried Chantix unsuccessfully.
