I heard so many great things about Chantix, I decided to finally try it, it took alot of internal convincing I was strong enough to do this, I spoke to my doctor, and she wrote the script, I took it to the pharmacy (smoked a cigarette on the way), and dropped off the prescription. When I returned 2 hours later, they said it wasnt ready. After 2 days, I called my doctor, and she said my insurance (MedCo) wouldnt cover Chantix unless I tried the patch first and was unsuccessful. I filled the script for the patch, but havent even tried it yet. Im very frustrated, because you have to quit cold turkey practically with the patch. It says NOT to smoke at all once you start it, and it will feed the nicotine to your body. I somehow dont think that my problem, I think its habit, and would probably take the patch off in desperation, and continue smoking. Now my doctor wont tell me how long I have to "use" the patch before I can get the Chantix. I think its insane that when someone tries to get it, they have to have these rules and conditions before they'll give it. I cannot afford to buy it outright and as I have 3 small children, and usually end up scrapping for cigarette money by the second week before payday. Has anyone tried the patch, or had a similar situation? I dont know anyone who has used the patch, and have alot of mixed feelings about it. Help, please?

I tried the patch and it didn't work at all. It burned when I had it on, made my skin turn yellow and it STINKS worse than just about anything I've smelled in my life. It helped me cut down, but didn't even come close to helping me quit and I had a LOT of motivation at the time.
