CHANTIX  —

I have tried everything to quit smoking and nothing had worked in the past.  When I heard about Chantix, I was excited and couldn't wait to see my doctor for a prescription.  I really did want to quit, but just needed assistance getting over the addiction.

I took the pill for about six weeks, and I did quit smoking.  I agree that after taking the pill for about ten days, you no longer want to smoke.  The pleasure is gone when you light up.  I actually found myself being very opposed to being around the smell of smoke.  So, yes, this drug does make you want to quit and takes away the pleasure you experienced from smoking.

The down side are the side effects:  Some people experience fairly severe abdominal problems, including bloating, gas and constipation.  I was one of those people.  I also had a problem sleeping at night.  I would lay down and close my eyes, but I wasn't getting rest.  I had powerful and vivid dreams every night and this was very disruptive to my sleep.  i had problems waking up in the morning and was tired all the time.

I finally gave up on Chantix and went back to smoking.  I tried.  I really tried, but this was not the "Miracle" for me.  Additionally, smoking cessation is not covered by many insurance companies and a monthly supply was costing me close to $200.

The manufacturer offers support via the website and daily emails or telephone calls, but I actually found these annoying and a bunch of junk I had already heard over and over.

I cannot in all honesty recommend this to anyone.

NYGoddess - I just want to offer my support on the effort to quit smoking and hope you will try again with success. I wish this had worked for you but glad that you shared your experiences. Perhaps something else will work, and I hope you let us know. There are a lot of people out here wanting to quit and hoping for something that helps. Well, I know you know that.

That is great, and I am very happy for you. However, I did take Chantix on a full stomach and that did not help. I was so bloated and constipated and sick to my stomach and had crazy dreams every night and woke up the next morning totally exhausted. It was not worth it to me. So, Chantix did not work for me. It worked for you and that is wonderful. Hope you remain smoke free.

Oh. Let me add. I would normally smoke a pack of cigs in 2 days. I considered myself a crack head smoker because I smoked like a crack head needed another hit. I wouldn't smoke the whole cigarette just enough to satisfy my attack that came ever 10 minutes or so. During my duration on this program, I continued smoke everytime I had the urge. But, I smoke less and less each time. I gradually became smoke free. Remember, there is no nicotine in Chantix. It doesn't say you can't smoke, they just rather you didn't. But, this has worked for me and after 7 weeks, I am smoke free.

Hi there. I recently quit smoking completely for 3 weeks now after 16 years, let alone my employers smoke in the office where I work and I live with smokers. I took Chantix for 6-7 weeks and quit smoking completely. At first, I felt nauseous when taking the pill, but, that was because I took the pill on an empty stomach. Once I had some food then took the pill I never expereinced the side effect ever again. I don't know if you ate before taking the pill or not, but, alot of people on here or in general didn't eat before they took the pills and therefore, it caused them to have the effects. It was in the instructions all the while.

I also tried chantex but it was making me sick and light headed so I too stopped and am smoking still. Bummer they can't just make sommething with less side effects.

The cost of cigarettes over your life versus the max of $800 for 4 months of treatment and you are saving not only loads of money but your life and health in the long run. I am on day 13. After tomorrow I will be 1 week completely nicotene free. I personally haven't experienced any of the bad side effects. I am a bit more tired but nothing major. even if i have to deal with bieng a zombie for 4 months to quit it will be worth it. additionally did you try to continue not smoking after the chantix and how long did you try the chantix for before you quit and after you quit smoking?

My boyfriend, sister and co-worker all tried this. My boyfriend suffered the abdominal discomfort and major sleep problems. All of the 3 people mentioned still smoke and stopped taking it. It didn't work on any of them. they found that they smoked slightly less but the urges never went away. How long should you take it before you finally stop smoking? I had huge hopes for all three. I have never been a smoker but I have learned, first-hand, what a serious addiction it really is. Good luck to all of you smokers. Hope they find a real cure some day.

That is the price at Walgreens here in Florida. My insurance does not cover this, so I am paying full price. I have receipts if you do not believe me. Since CVS, Walgreens and Target and WalMart are all comparable as far as prescriptions prices, there is no need to shop around. I am sorry if you feel I am being dishonest.

I don't know where this reviewer paid $200 for Chantix, but she should have shopped around. I paid less than $100 for a 30 day supply, took the med for 6 weeks, and stopped taking it when the loss of sleep got bad. I was paying at least that much for cigarettes.
