CFL's (Compact Flourescent Lightbulbs) Review Summary

If you’re concerned about the environment, or just want to save a little cash, our reviewers think you may want to consider using compact fluorescent light bulbs. Our reviewers liked the longevity of these light bulbs, which saved them money over time for not having to replace burned out bulbs nearly as often. Viewpoints members notice that these light bulbs use up less energy than regular light bulbs, which not only saves cash, but makes them environmentally friendly. Most importantly, however, is the actual performance of the light. Our reviewers say not to worry, “they take about 15 seconds or so to get to their brightest, but after that they are great.”

Being green doesn't just mean using organic products, driving a hybrid or recycling it is also about saving energy. I have been doing my part with trying to use organic products around my yard and I recycle aluminum cans. Then I got greener on a trip to Home Depot last year when I spied a big sale on... read full review »

I'm a big fan of the florescent bulbs for the amount of energy they save and for the long life.  I'm short and the less I have to climb on a step stool to change bulbs the better in my book.  I do, however, have a couple of issues with them.  First of all, if you have any lights on a dimmer switch,... read full review »

Using CFL's (Compact Flourescent Lightbulbs) may be the easiest thing you can do to help Mother Earth.  Although initially more expensive to purchase than regular incandescent bulbs, they can make up for it in extended life and lower energy bills.  Use these in the lamps that you use most frequently, and you'll help your budget and the environment at the same time.  CFL's use less electricity, which means that less coal is burned to produce the electricity (as the majority of American electricity comes from coal-burning power plants), and that means less air pollution and global climate change...

Compact flourescent Ligts give good light at a good price.  Compact Flourescent Ligting (CFLs) don't seem inexpensive f or the initial ipurchase, but in the long run they are a wonderful investment.  Do you have a room, porch or hallway where the lights are always on?  I had a laundry room where the pull cord for the light had broken and I was too short to reach it, so that light was always on.  We lived in that house for eleven years and we were on our second CFL in that fixture.  In the years that we lived in that house we converted the majority  of our lighting to CFLs.  Our energy bills...

Compact Flourescent Lights are a really great, inexpensive way that you can help the environment!  They cost a little more than the cheap lightbulbs, but they last a long time and they use so much less energy.  I'm pretty sure they last longer than normal bulbs, so even you may pay a little more right now, but in the long run you're saving money and being green at the same time.  As soon as we moved into our apartment, we went out and bought a bunch of these and changed out every light in the house.  Sometimes it's really hard and/or expensive to do environmentally friendly stuff, so we're...

Why wouldn't you want a lighbulb that last longer, costs you less money and is better for the environment. Over the last year I have been trying to convert all of the lights in my house to CFL's. Some people are "turned off" by the higher cost of CFL's without really understanding that over the course of time this lighbulb will actually save money. On average most CFL's save 45 to 30 dollars in energy bills over the course of their life. CFL's are also four time more efficient and last up to 10 times longer. Other CFL skeptics criticize the quality of CFL's light. In my opinion a CFL's light quality...

If you want to save on your electric bills....buy all compact flourecent light bulbs for your house. You can use them inside & out! It's also one of the best ways you can help our environment. There are so many different ones to choose from, too. There are spots, floods, dimmables, small lamp size & more. I also found blue, green & red ones for Christmas decorating.

Yes, they cost more, at first, but the savings you'll reap in the end is so worth the initial cost. Besdes, you can usually find coupons to use to help. If you don't know what to do with your old light bulbs, think of donating them...

You Know, Those spirally looking bulbs that go into lamps like a regular light bulb. Maybe not as many "Light Color" choices, such as "Natural Light", but when you consider that they last five or MORE years, use a percentage of the energy while putting out the same amount of light, AND, they are great in the summer, due to the fact that they put out far less heat.

Many utility companies are supplementing stores by selling them for .99 cents each.

Considering how much money they save over the time used, and that fact that they don't have to be changed so often, makes them truly "GREEN" in many ways....

I purchased my first CFL shortly after they were widely available in stores, so more than a few years have passed.  After experiencing good results with that bulb (until it finally burnt out), I decided to continue with a CFL.  I am surprised how much better this new bulb is.  The full brightness occurs a lot faster, and the bulb, especially the base, remains cooler than the old bulb did.  Factor in the energy savings, and I am extremely pleased with my choice.

Although these light bulbs can take a few seconds to turn on def worth the delay for the efficiency! The different designs are good for different light fixtures.  I especially like the round ones that look like regular light bulbs.  At first I thought the bulbs were brighter, it is more of a white light.  After time they seem to put off less light but still make things look brighter!

I changed all the bulbs in my home to these and the first month saw a electric savings of about $20. Nothing else changed consumption wise so I think they are really helping me save some money. I am not sure that they are as bright as regular bulbs but there is no glare and they last a long time. A bit of investment is needed to change over all bulbs but the savings should pay for it soon.

I was pleasantly surprised when I used flourescent lightbulbs, I thought they were a bit poor in their lighting ability, but about 2 minutes later I realized they just had to 'warm up' and lighted wonderfully.  We have a pole lamp, and it did require us to remove the attachement piece so the bulb would fit...and easy fix.

CFL's have driven me crazy because they don't fit in many "normal" fixtures. I'm tired of bending lamp harps, or not having shades fit right, just because I'm trying to save energy and do the right thing. I'm pleased to see that they're starting to come now in a wider variety of sizes, shapes and lumens.

I replaced all of the incandescent bulbs in my small condo with these compact fluorescent bulbs and afte six months noted that they did reduce my energy expenses compared with the previous six months of usage.

I have CFL's in every place I can put them. I do not like that they take awhile to get to full potenial however.  You have to turn them on and wait a couple minutes for the full light.
