I would definetly buy again

this is a nice bulb for the bedroom, the vintage style has a nice golden glow, so you don't want it for putting on make up. it's bright enough, not harsh on the eyes. I would suggest if you want an old time charm the GEvintage style bulb is perfect

Not as bright as incandescents but they last

4

I feel compelled to write this review because this is now a product I have been using for 6 years. Truthfully, I miss incandescents, but I replaced all of my bulbs all through the house with these ones and have them exclusively now. First, what I like about them. I can go 5 years without having to replace them, with this present group being that age without failing. Second, they are becoming far less expensive. I also understand that for power usage, they are more efficient. Last, I have been able to get them in festive colors, including orange. Now, what is not as good about them compared to incandescents is that they simply are not as bright. I loved a good 100 Watt bulb that would light up a room and make it great for reading. It did get hot, too, though. But, now I hear that just about all incandescent bulbs are being phased out, and I simply have to get used to a place not as brightly lit, indefinitely.

Beware and do not buy!

These have been horrible light bulbs!! I do not like the fact that they begin dim and have to work up to their brightness. That is not helpful when I turn on a light I expect to have light immediately!! Two different times I have had these lightbulbs catch on fire when they were burning out. Good thing that someone was in the room both times. After the second fire, I threw away all the lightbulbs I had and will NEVER buy these again. Another thing is they were suppose to last longer and save on power. They did not last any longer than our traditional lightbulbs, and I never saw any difference on power. I was Very Dissappointed in these and hope they do away with them! Also they were ridiculously high in price. I cannot believe the publicity these lightbulbs got for the quality they are. Maybe the higher priced ones are better but at this point I will not be giving them a try. I will NOT spend one more dime on these lightbulbs.

If you like a flourescent lighting, then maybe

I guess you have to like fluorescent lighting to appreciate these bulbs. We tried them as a green choice but found them lacking n many ways. First the light is harsh. Colors are not true. I much preferred my gold old light bulbs to these. I tend to use LED lighting for my sewing and just don't want such harsh lighting in a home. Even in my kitchen, I have replaced all fluorescent fixtures with the newer energy wise lighting. These bulbs often did not fit with my table lamps shades. They appeared too bright behind the shades and gave strange light. I cannot recommend these bulb S as a replacement for the incandescent bulbs I used to use

Finally! some white light

After searching through several stores, finally found white light bulbs on amazon. bought the GE daylight ones. They are fantastic! Was stuck with yellow light bulbs (even tough i gotten the GE reveal ones - the picture on the box is misleading) for months. With my new GE 89095 Energy Smart 26-Watt Daylight Spiral Compact Fluorescent Bulb, my eyes feel less strained when i have to study at night, and i get to save electricity. How cool is that! I highly recommend this to students as their study lamp light bulb!

Greatly improved since last purchase!

I purchased my first CFL shortly after they were widely available in stores, so more than a few years have passed.  After experiencing good results with that bulb (until it finally burnt out), I decided to continue with a CFL.  I am surprised how much better this new bulb is.  The full brightness occurs a lot faster, and the bulb, especially the base, remains cooler than the old bulb did.  Factor in the energy savings, and I am extremely pleased with my choice.

better light bulbs for us all

Using CFL's (Compact Flourescent Lightbulbs) may be the easiest thing you can do to help Mother Earth.  Although initially more expensive to purchase than regular incandescent bulbs, they can make up for it in extended life and lower energy bills.  Use these in the lamps that you use most frequently, and you'll help your budget and the environment at the same time.  CFL's use less electricity, which means that less coal is burned to produce the electricity (as the majority of American electricity comes from coal-burning power plants), and that means less air pollution and global climate change emissions. A couple of "cons" that I can think of:  I haven't yet found CFL's that function in 3-way light switches, where you can choose from lower to mid to higher light levels.  But as these bulbs grow in popularity, I'll bet someone will figure that out and 3-way CFL's may show up commonly on store shelves.  As another reviewer noted, they don't work well with dimmer switches (again, I think that's just a matter of time).  Also, not all light fixtures are made to accept them (some CFL's are too  large to fit in).  That is usually remedied by looking for the smaller size of CFL, which is now more readily available than even just one year ago.  Another complaint is that most CFL's have a slight delay in turning on and reaching their full brightness.  This, too, is becoming less of an issue as time passes, as I have noticed some newer CFL packages advertising "instant on" capabilities.   Be cautious about disposal of these bulbs.  They do contain small amounts of mercury, so you don't want to just throw them into the trash where they may break and eventually release theat mercury into the landfills.  Many hardware stores now offer collection bins for properly recycling these bulbs.  If one breaks in your household, remember to ventilate the room (open windows) and sweep the broken bulb's debris into a zip-lock plastic bag before taking it to a hardware store for proper disposal.  Again, I think as time goes on, there will be more and more places offering collection bins for proper disposal of these better bulbs.

Compact Florescent Lightbulbs

5

I have been buying the Compact Florescent Lightbulbs for about six years now and I really like them. these Compact Florescent Bulbs are the cadillac of the light bulb. They are great in the hard to reach spots like the top of a stairwell. They are also great for all of the places you use a standard light bulb around your house inside or outdoors. One of the things i really like about these bulbs is that they last for a couple of years. Also the energy savings in a plus. The more you use around your house the more you save also they actually seem to burn a little brighter and whiter.I also like that they come in the same watt sizes as the standard light bulbs. It is also nice that these Compact Florescent Bulbs do not burn hot to the touch so your not adding heat to your rooms from the light source. These bulbs are also good for the enviroment in the fact that there will be less of them in the land fills than there will be if we continued to use the old style bulbs. I would recommend these bulbs to anybody.

Replace all of your bulbs with CFLs!

Compact Flourescent Lights are a really great, inexpensive way that you can help the environment!  They cost a little more than the cheap lightbulbs, but they last a long time and they use so much less energy.  I'm pretty sure they last longer than normal bulbs, so even you may pay a little more right now, but in the long run you're saving money and being green at the same time.  As soon as we moved into our apartment, we went out and bought a bunch of these and changed out every light in the house.  Sometimes it's really hard and/or expensive to do environmentally friendly stuff, so we're always looking for options that we can actually do.  These are absolutely worth it; it feels good to know that you're doing something for the environment, and all this takes is something as simple as changing a lightbulb.  Even I can do that!  They provide exactly the same light as any other bulb, I don't even notice a difference.  I suggest that everyone use these.
