I'm a big fan of the florescent bulbs for the amount of energy they save and for the long life.  I'm short and the less I have to climb on a step stool to change bulbs the better in my book.  I do, however, have a couple of issues with them.  First of all, if you have any lights on a dimmer switch, don't bother with these...they flicker when they're supposed to be off and do not shut off properly.  The 2nd problem I have was specifically with the Phillips brand bulbs...I bought the 3 pack of vanity bulbs (for around $15 or so) about a year ago.  Now these bulbs are supposed to last for around 4-5 years.  All 3 bulbs had burned out or stopped functioning within 6 months of being purchased and installed.  I tried e-mailing Phillips directly through the website 3 separate times and got absolutely no response from them at all.  So, now I'm stuck having regular energy sucking vanity bulbs in our bathroom again because I'm not willing to risk being out another $15-$20 to try them again.  Just be cautious and be sure to hold on to your receipts for a LONG time.
