Compact flourescent Ligts give good light at a good price. Compact Flourescent Ligting (CFLs) don't seem inexpensive f or the initial ipurchase, but in the long run they are a wonderful investment. Do you have a room, porch or hallway where the lights are always on? I had a laundry room where the pull cord for the light had broken and I was too short to reach it, so that light was always on. We lived in that house for eleven years and we were on our second CFL in that fixture. In the years that we lived in that house we converted the majority of our lighting to CFLs. Our energy bills were reasonable, we lived in SW MIchigan, wheree we paid the same amount year round, so I can't give exact figures, but we paid $150 per month foir gas and electricity, that includes heat and air. Cfls come in almost any size you want, they come in 3-ways. They even are available for canister lighting, but will not work with a dimmer switch in that instance, Environmentally they are an asset because they use less energy, however mercury is used in their manufacture and that is a bio- hazard in a landfill.
