I bought this toothbrush for my 2-year-old (though hers has Elmo, Zoe and Cookie Monster on the stand) when I had trouble getting her excited about brushing her teeth. She wouldn't let me help her brush them, but she didn't have the back-and-forth brushing movements down yet. I know these toothbrushes are labelled "3 years and up", but with supervision, there really is no danger to a 2-year-old.
My daughter was very happy to start brushing her teeth after I brought this home. The "on" switch is a an easy-to-press button with a rubber cover that my tot has no problem turning on and off. The brush head is a small circular tip that twists back and forth and vibrates when switched on. It does a thorough job, yet is gentle on the gums. My daughter says it tickles her whne I go in to do her back teeth when she is done with her attempt at brushing. So, yes, she still needs my help, but as she does not let me brush her teeth for very long, I find it easier to get the job done with a brush that takes few and gentle strokes rather than going back and forth with a regular toothbrush.
I have 2 problems with it, however. 1) It has fallen several times, of course, and while the motor and brushing action still work, the clipping part that attaches the brush head to the motor body was ruined and the brush falls off easily if you are not careful with it. I'm sure that could be easily fixed if I could 2) just find the replacement attachments! I may have to go shopping online for the replacements, but it stinks that I'd have to pay shipping. If worse comes to worse, I'll call Butler/G-U-M directly.
