To the Point

We have two sets of binoculars. The large ones are an older model by Bushnell which I will review. Several years ago we bought smaller ones. These are Eddie Bauer 7-15 X 25 Binoculars made by Bushnell.

A Closer View

I paid about $50 for these. They can now only be found used but if they become availabe theyll be a great buy. The specs say that these binoculars have 25mm fully coated objective lenses. This means that I should be able to see 240 feet wide at 1,000 yards on the 7x setting. I can see a 170 foot wide view at 1,000 yards at the 15x view. (We do keep all the paperwork on everything we own or owned!)

In plain English this is pretty good. It's not as fantastic as I would like but that would cost me at least twice as much. I'll give you an example. We were recently at Glacier National Park. There were grizzly bears on the side of a ridge. I can't tell you how far but I can tell you that they were a distance above the street and we were across the street night after night watching them. The only way to use these is to focus on the bear at 7x first and then slowly move it over to 15x. I say slowly because 15x gets him pretty close up - sometimes so close that I would lose him/her or the babies. Still it's not perfect but at 10 ounces we can carry them hiking.

They come with a soft pleather case and a strap. My binoculars are in perfect condition in spite of the hard knocks they take. They fold down a little to make a monocle which I've used depending on what I'm looking at or how far it is. There's a knob at the top to focus.

They measure 4 ½ inches from lens to eyepiece and a little more at the widest point.
We have seals in my back yard close enough certainly to see with a naked eye but I keep these on my desk just to get an even better view.
