Burt's Bees Vanishing Cream —

I'm a bit of a Burt's Bees fanatic; I've tried most of their salves, lotions and other treatments. One of the many products I ordered from a recent visit to drugstore.com was Burt's Bees Marshmallow Vanishing Creme. I was interested in trying this creme because it was advertised as being light and "vanishing" into your skin after you applied it. I'm looking for a good cream-based moisturizer for times when I need something heavier than a lotion and I thought that this might be it.

About Burt's Bees and their Marshmallow Vanishing Creme
Burt's Bees started back in the 1980's in Maine, where a fellow named Burt began selling products made from the byproducts of his bee hives - honey and wax based goods. He eventually grew his business and relocated to North Carolina where their factory currently resides. To make this creme Burt's Bees took the dried root of the perennial marshmallow and they also added mango butter to the mixture. The product which is 97.5% natural, is white and comes a 1.5 ounce frosted glass jar with a silver metal lid that retails for $15.00 on the Burt's Bees website. This product was not tested on animals and is packaged in a box that urges you to recycle.

Using the Marshmallow Vanishing Creme
I was eager to try out this little jar of creme and see how well it worked for me, so after my shower and facial cleaning routine I unscrewed the jar lid and put a small amount onto my fingers. You have to dig into the slightly hardened creme in order to get it out of the jar. The creme went on lightly and did indeed vanish, but ICK! The smell! The scent of this product is by far the most offensive of any Burt's Bees product I have used. Imagine sticking your head into a jar of marshmallow fluff - and crank up the sweetness of that smell a hundred percent. That's close to how sickly sweet this creme smells. I was expecting a slight marshmallow scent, but this stuff is overwhelming. I basically have to stop breathing through my nose while I apply this stuff.

Fortunately, after the creme has been applied and absorbed, the smell quickly dissipates. I couldn't live with this product if I continued to smell the marshmallow-eyness of it throughout the day.

How Well It Works
Burt's Bees Marshmallow Vanishing Creme absorbs well for a creme but it still leaves a very moist feeling on my face. It's too heavy for me to want to use it during the day but it works well as a night creme. I think it's also better as a nighttime creme because it doesn't have any sunscreen in it either. It does seem to do a very good job of moisturizing and it doesn't irritate my skin, which is easily irritated by cosmetic products.

Cat's Bottom Line
I hate the smell of this stuff. I think it's simply awful. Still, I'm inclined to keep using it since I paid nearly $13 for the jar. I'll definitely switch to a different nighttime moisturizer when I'm through with this. I don't recommend this product at all, just because of the smell.

Hate it. The smell is so gross. I think it feels sticky and doesn't absorb as fast as it claims. I got a little sample jar with a bunch of other samples things and I only used this once and tossed it. It was ewww.
