I was real glad to find that Burt's Bees had a sunscreen. I like Burt's Bees products. They're all natural, and this sunscreen is too. It's new out, and it says that on the tube. I saw it at CVS before our beach trip and got a tube. They did not have the Burt's Bees 30 at CVS. I'm generally fine with 15 SPF, so that's what I got by default.

Since I had a reaction to Bullfrog sunblock last year, I even checked with the pharmacist before getting this. He didn't know they had Burt's Bees sunscreen. He said his wife and daughter love Burt's Bees stuff. He checked the label and said it looked fine and also asked where it was in the store (way bottom shelf of sun section) and said he'd buy some too. I was feeling stoked about my good judgement.

We went to Cedar Island, NC. That is very remote. That's a good thing especially with this Burt's Bees sunblock as you will understand later.

The boys and I took a canoe over to a deserted island across from Cedar Island to a little beach area. This did not take long. It was less than two miles across in the canoe.

After we beached, I got out the Burt's Bees sunscreen.

The whole family starts rubbing on this Burt's Bees . . . or we try to rub it. The thing is that it is thick and does not really rub in. It just sits on top. We all looked like we've been dusted with flour with this glopped on. Think of a cake pan with Crisco and flour on it ready to bake.

Now, the guy folks really did not care. I did. I hate to have this odd white stuff shining all over me. I rubbed and rubbed. It did not rub in or come off. The best it would do it kind of pill up like Elmer's glue but not near as neat and not coming off like dried glue.

To beat all, I took a shower when we got back to the cabin. I still was glowing. I do use the soap and do scrub well. Honest. The next morning I showered again. It took that second shower to get rid of all the glow.

One thing I can say is that I did not burn with this Burt's Bees sunscreen. It was like full body coverage and for the whole world to see. I was glowing like the lighthouse but not burning as I did later in the week with Neutrogena sunblock spray.

Another issue I had with this Burt's Bees is that it stained my favorite t-shirt and my great $125 Miracle swimming suit. The stains are like tan colored - maybe from the hemp oil. That doesn't show on colors but does a real number on true white. The t-shirt was so bad I had to throw it out. The swimsuit spot was small and kind of under the arm. I am still cleaning on that.

I was totally hating on this sunscreen. Then my sister came over. I mentioned it made me bright white. Well my sister is very Irish light. She rubbed some on and no problem. Folks don't talk much about shades of white, but there you go. I am white but I am medium I'd estimate. I wouldn't even say I have a tan, but I just run to a little darker probably due to some native American in the family line. My sister and her kids are lighter naturally and the lotion does not show up on them.

Burt's Bees sunscreen did work as far as preventing sunburn. That I can value after the big burn the last day with Neutrogena. I still do not want a bright white shine on my medium skin. That just looks funky. If you are very light, then this may work. If you have any color to you then I would say look around.

I don't know how a bumble bee avoids sunburn, but they do. ;>

It's not really even greasy. It's kind of dry and thick feeling. The last photo is at the end of the day with that much still showing after being in the water. I haven't heard about the buy out but will check on that. Some of my students work at the factory during the summer.

Gross! Greasy residue from skin products is awful. I heard Estee Lauder or Lancome bought out Burt's Bees which has changed the quality. Anyone else heard that? Not sure if it's true.

I think you are (-: Hadn't thought about it really. That lotion told the tale.

I'm just thankful I used it on the deserted island and not down at Emerald Isle packed with people.

I am disappointed in many Burt's products these days. They are...weird.

Yep, I'm white! Guess it's better than red. Thanks for the great review!
