just plain awful
i ended up trying Burt's Bees toothpaste through an in-home study. i was sent 2 full-size tubes of toothpaste marked #1 and #2, and was to use each of them for a week and give feedback. one i liked, and one was absolutely terrible. after the study i pulled off the plain white labels that had been applied over the tubes themselves to see which brands they were. the good toothpaste was Tom's of Maine, which came as no surprise to me. the horrible one was Burt's Bees, which surprised me for a couple of reasons. for one, i didn't realize that Burt's Bees *made *toothpaste. and secondly, i expect better from Burt's Bees as a brand. i think the absolute worst thing about this toothpaste was its consistency. "thick" and "gooey" are both good descriptions. most toothpastes are...well, pasty. you put them on your toothbrush, and as you start running it voer your teeth, the paste disperses and froths up. not Burt's Bees. i was surprised at how hard it was to get the toothbrush moving normally. it's like the toothpaste was sticking the toothbrush to my teeth! and then once i got it started working, it didn't froth up like i'm used to, which doesn't necessarily mean that it wasn't working, but it certainly didn't make me feel any better about the product. the taste was OK, the aftertaste was pretty bad. my mouth and breath just didn't feel fresh after using this stuff! the only good things i can think of to say are that Burt's Bees is a good brand overall, with quality ingredients in their products and no animal testing. but the same can be said of other brands, such as Tom's of Maine, which makes much better toothpaste.
