From my photo gallery you know I've got a green thumb and an avid gardener.  I live in the country where growing produce isn't a hobby, it's a necessity.  I've got just under a quarter of an acre for growing crops and rely on rich soil, i.e. compliments of my friendly fertilizer machines, Colonel and General and quality seeds and plants.  Burpee seeds and plants have been my seed and plant choice for years.  Being the computer geek that I am I usually use their website for my purchases, plant and seed information, gardening tips, etc.  I'm also a "Green" grower; if I can save a few trees by requesting email catalogs I feel I'm doing my personal part to help my environment.  Just a little bit of history about Burpees:

"The Burpee company was founded in Philadelphia in 1876 by an 18 year-old with a passion for plants and animals and a mother willing to lend him $1000 dollars of "seed money" to get started in business. Within 25 years  W. Atlee Burpee had developed the largest, most progressive seed company in America. By 1915 we were mailing a million catalogues a year to America's gardeners."

Although my family is originally from the south, I lived most of my life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  My knowledge of the Burpee company is first hand.  My family still has photos of me at seven years old standing in our backyard with overalls and a garden fork proudly standing in front of my bumper crop of tomatoes, corn, and string-beans, all of which my mother used for our summer dinners.

Whether you are a novice or experienced gardener, Burpee Seeds and Plants for Home Gardening will help you acheive the results you want for your gardens.  In these economically challenging times, home gardens are a growing tradition that feed both the body and soul.   Gardening also helps your physical and mental health, so go outside, dig, plant and enjoy!  Burpee Seeds and Plants for Home Gardening in my opinion is your best choice for all of your gardening needs.

Well, thanks for getting in touch, Grandmaw. I only borrow (okay, steal) succulent and other flowers for rooting. My friends and I've always called that British Gardening!

FYI: I just finished the second soil review. This one specifically can be used indoors or out, for flowers or veggies. Now if the gardener can be at least half as good as the soil......

Never say never, TunefulG! My first garden was an orange crate filled with back yard soil, pebbles from the driveway and borrowed, [okay stolen] tomato plants from our neighbors garden. I was only five so my criminal record has been absolved. I will read your review on bagged soils because I haven't found one that truly meets my indoor needs.

Re your suggestion for Katrena: What a neat idea! Kids can get the bug (no pun intended) early. Part of my desire to plant came from spending time with my folks while they gardened.

Inspiring review! My garden went to the dogs last year (literally), so I'm back in pots and have reviewed some of the bagged soils I'm trying. I always look forward to the freshness of the things I grow, but I'll never have a garden basket like the one in your photo gallery. Gorgeous!

Thanks so much Katrena! Your girls are adorable and I totally understand the lack of time when you have kids. Here's a way to enjoy gardening if you have little ones. Get a gallon milk jug, cut [with mommy's supervision] four 4" holes on the sides, wrap the jug [covering the holes] with plastic wrap and fill the jug with potting soil. Cut the plastic wrap where the holes are and insert a strawberry plant in each hole. Leave the wrap on and water from the spout. You can sit the jug on the porch, in a window and grow strawberries for the summer!! Let the girls cover the jug with stickers and drawings! An easy project that will keep them busy and enjoy the fruits of their labor. I call it my Urban Strawberry Pot and it's recycled! Keep it green and have fun! xoxo GrandmawsO~!

What a wonderful review! How nice that you were able to use your knowledge to help your family. I'm hoping to have a vegetable garden some day. I only got flowers planted this year--my girls are really small and high maintenance and I'm working several part-time jobs. I really miss my dad because he would come over and till the plot for me when I tried a veggie garden a few times.
