Bumbo Baby Seat  —

I had never heard of Bumbo chairs until my husband's brother and his wife bought one for our second child. They have a daughter who is a month older and started sitting long before our son did. Apparently their daughter had a Bumbo that she used on a regular basis, and thinking maybe that was helpful, purchased one for our son.

Our son immediately loved the Bumbo chair. Even though he was still really wobbly at 5 months it allowed him to be positioned in a way that he could learn to use his back muscles to sit up. It has still taken him awhile to get used to sitting on his own but he is doing really well and we have found all kinds of great uses for the Bumbo. We take it to grandma's house so he can sit on the table and watch her make supper (ONLY UNDER SUPERVISION OF COURSE!), he can sit in it while he plays with his toys, I put him in the chair on the bathroom floor before I take a shower so I know he can't get into anything. I also feed him in it like a high chair sometimes.

We went out and purchased the tray that can be bought separately right away and when it is attached you can put suction cupped toys on it or snacks when the baby is old enough for finger foods like the little puffs things. There have been a few times that he has twisted himself around enough to get out of it but it is a lot harder for him to do that if the tray is attached.

This is definitely something you don't want to put your child into and walk away, like I mentioned, my son has twisted himself out a few times and gotten onto the floor to reach something. We put him in it on the table occasionally but never without being right there because it could be really dangerous to do that.

I like that the Bumbo is ergonomically designed for the baby. It definitely helps them sit up before their muscles are trained to do so, which is nice for giving them a new perspective and way to play.

Bumbo also comes in a ton of different colors- pink, yellow, lime green, purple, teal. The trays are all white. Our son got the purple one because it was the only color the store had at the time, but he doesn't seem to mind. He likes to sit up and look around or watch his big brother play.

The website says that this chair can be used for up to 14 months or longer depending on the size of the child. I think that is great because so many baby things are only good for a short time and its really nice to have something that they can continue to use for the entire first year. We have the baby swing, vibration bouncy chair thing, jumparoo, exersaucer, high chair...so many things for a baby. And most of them are useless after only 2-3 months.

I really love that the Bumbo chair is so light weight too. It makes it super easy to take along when we go somewhere. I take it in the car almost every time I leave the house because it comes in so handy if I need a place for him to sit. The other day we took our older son to the park and put the baby in his Bumbo in the grass. He loved being able to reach over the side and touch the grass, yet he wasn't having to sit in dirt or where he could reach stuff well enough to put into his mouth. There weren't bugs crawling all over him. It is really nice. Plus it is easy to move as the sun does to keep baby in the shade of a tree. I have also started using it in the yard when I hang my laundry out to dry. I put the chair down near the clothesline and take the baby out so he can watch me as I do the laundry. My older boy runs around and the baby sits and laughs at him. I am sure it will come in handy all summer long as I do my gardening and yard work.

I wish I had known about this product when I had my first son. He tries to sit in it all the time even though he is 2 1/2. It is such a soft, flexible material that I don't think he could do too much to hurt it.

One thing I wish I could use it for is in the tub. There is a warning on it not to use it in water, and my guess would be that is because it would probably float, which would not be safe if it tipped over. But it would be so nice in the tub because the baby wouldn't wiggle away as easily as in a baby tub or a full sized tub.

Overall I recommend this product to anyone who isn't able to hold their baby all day long or wants to help their baby learn to sit up better. I think it has helped my son somewhat, and even if he is just learning on his own it is still a really nice thing for him to have.
