I am a three time mom. As the years go by, I become more earth conscience. I've realized that by doing things to save money, I can help the earth to. When my husband and I decided that I should consider staying home rather than returning to work with this baby, I began to explore options to cut costs as dramatically as we had cut our income (we are an equal earner home). I already knew that I would be breastfeeding, (talk about saving on formula!), what else could I do? I put myself on every hand me down clothing list of family and friends. One of whom let me on to the newer style of cloth diapers.
She actually recommended another brand, combined with sewing my own (yeah right). I did extensive research, and found Bum Genius version 2.0. Am I ever glad that I came across these! I discovered that it takes about a dozen a day, and you do want to wash these everyday.. Bum Genius 2.0 is an all-in-one diaper, that means no plastic diaper covers. And unlike other all-in-ones, these can be washed in hot water. NO Bleach, but I use a teaspoon of Oxyclean with each load, and there are no stains.
I have been using these for over 2 months, and I love it! There will be an adjustment period if you have previously used disposable diapers, but it is so worth it. I even found a great website that offers discounts when you order several, and continues discounting as you reorder larger sizes for your growing baby. www.weebunzdiapers.com They were about $4.00 cheaper per diaper than similar websites, with lots of options for free shipping. I never could find Bum Genius diapers locally. The owner there will even answer your questions, and help you make the transition.
Bum Genius 2.0 diapers are the closet thing to disposable that you'll find out there. And with good disposables running you around $.20 each, the Bum Genius 2.0 diapers pay for themselves in about a month or two, depending on your usage. I love walking down the diaper aisle, looking at the prices, and thinking, I am soooo glad I don't have to buy those. Plus, I have a color to match each one of our daughters outfits!
I am happy to answer your questions about going cloth, I have become a HUGE advocate. Just ask, I'll answer when I have a minute between running kids around to different events, and heading up PTO meetings (yeah, these really do work for busy moms!).
