There are no less than a million Chinese buffets in Killeen, Texas. Buffet Palace is by far the best one. First of all, they serve Chinese, Japanese, and Korean food, not just the typical fare found at most sit-down or buffet Chinese restaurants.
They've got about 10 different kinds of sushi. California roll, Philadelphia roll, eel, tuna, spicy, mild. And they are all fresh and rotated often. Neither I, nor anyone else I know who has dined there has gotten sick from the buffet-style sushi.
Hot and Sour, Egg Drop, Won Ton, Kim Chee, one seasonal, and two other soups where the noodles, seafood and vegetables are fresh and you just add broth. That way it's fresh and nothing is mushy from sitting there all day.
The buffet is huge and offers something for everyone, even the kidlets. There are the staples: sweet and sour, teriyaki, Kung Pao. They also have fresh salmon, steaks cooked to order (on certain days), pork dishes, cocktail shrimp, crab legs, and vegetarian offerings. They have a cold area as well. i wouldn't call it a "salad bar." They only have lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and ranch dressing if you want a salad. They have marinated green bean salad, watercress, and other prepared cold Asian salads. They are fresh and not wilted. There are stuffed mushrooms (my fave). They do not keep their rice in a bin on the hot table with the rest of the food. Rather, there are special rice keepers. They look like black kettles, and when you open them, steam has been circulating, keeping the rice nice and fluffy. There's fried, white, and brown rice.
They have a dessert bar too. There is very fresh seasonal fruit, cakes, cookies, brownies, "doughnuts" (freshly fried dough balls rolled in granulated sugar), ice cream and a topping bar.
This place is huge inside. As far as buffets go, it's in the upper range for price, and drinks are not included. They have a variety of cold drinks, iced teas, and beer. I've never waited for a table even on the weekends. I've never encountered an empty bin where a food item was supposed to be. Nothing's been cold or tough from sitting out too long.
For Asian buffet, you can't go wrong with Buffet Palace - Killeen TX.
